We should not be keeping a coach for a recruiting class in the era of free transfers, multiple professional options, and very short careers for top talent.

I’m happy with the hire and optimistic about the future, but we don’t know for sure if SS pulled a rabbit or a dud out of the hat yet. Time will tell. Looks promising, though!

I think my biggest departure from you (and others) is that I tend to focus on NCAAT berths and wins as opposed to the SEC regular season or tournament championships. I’ve learned how important it is to many fans in football and basketball by joining this forum. I always saw it as nothing more than a means to an end. I do not value conference championships as much as many of you. I do want to win the conference, but I am more interested in the big dance.

I think his player development is severely underrated on this board. We focus on the ones who regressed but ignore the ones who had great improvement.

I do agree that I’m not in love with his offensive sets. Looks like streetball at times.

I'm very happy about the positivity around coach Napier and like everything he is doing (giving us hope) but like you say MH we ain't eat no "puddin" yet................

I don't necessarily place huge value on the title itself (although I'd argue its a nice consolation prize if the NCAAT doesn't go great) as much as the fact that if we are in contention for conference titles then we will naturally get better seeds and increase our chances of going deeper in the tournament.

I will state that SEC titles are important to "me" - brings pride and a sense of Program Accomplishment hanging SEC banners.

Good point. I was thinking more of how it has pretty much united the football fanbase to this point. I think we need that type of hope for the basketball program.

Like everybody else, I like Coach White. I think he's a great guy and represents UF well. Somewhere along the line though, the program has lost any excitement. That's not saying he's a bad coach and I don't (other than a certain defensive coordinator) like calling for someone's job, but I think it might benefit all parties to start over. I'm not sure what UF basketball fans "deserve," but I think Coach White deserves a clean start...another chance at another school. Maybe somewhere he will be more appreciated. Unfortunately, at UF he is generally not appreciated. Is that fair? Probably not, but it is what it is.

I have a buddy that went to Georgia Tech. He'd love to have the level of consistency at GT that UF has had under White (though I'm not sure he'd trade it for the ACC tourney championship last year). Vandy would love to have made the last 6 NCAA tourneys. Same with Georgia or Ole Miss. I just think our fan base's expectations are higher...whether that's fair or not.

Okay, how many times has he made the second weekend of the tournament in 7 years? Is it a reasonable expectation that we do that more than once in 7 years?

I'm not a "fire Mike White" guy; I'm more of a "but I understand" guy. As long as he's here, I always want him to try to turn the corner and gain some traction. I want a youthful core to stick around and become veterans so every year is not a complete reset. I want him to encourage the kids to have fun and be excitable at home and allow them to feed off of an atmosphere (that is becoming fewer and less enthusiastic). I want him (or SOMEBODY from the basketball program) to get the UAA to focus on actual attendance rather than just ticket sales (over 10,000, officially, for each of the first 4 SEC home games). Along with things like flipping the cameras and getting the students more engaged, these things just don't seem to be very important on the Basketball-to-do list.

But as Mike White keeps watching his salary go up and the production doesn't increase along with it. Something has got to give there, but as usual, I'll leave that up to the folks paying the bills. I just don't ever gather any sense of disappointment about what has become of our basketball atmosphere and any desire to turn it around (from anybody outside of a few fans).

    Go GATORS!

Yes, it is a reasonable expectation. It’s also reasonable for it to not happen.

CMW is no Caliperi...never was, never will be. Caliperi would have to have multiple losing seasons to be placed on the hot seat. What is exhausting about CMW is how consistent he is with no one ever feeling fully confident on how the season will go. I can never get sense except its mediocre at best. Im done with it and its clear the program is done with him.

agreed - I don't value SEC championships as much as national championships, but these things are indicators of the overall health and direction of our program. Stumbling our way into the tournament on the bubble and winning a first round game is fine for a couple years, but it becomes less and less impressive when there are no other positive achievements happening with Gator basketball season after season.

overall, UF hoops has been consistently mediocre under White and things are getting worse the further we get from Donovan's culture and influence. Like we've all said ad nauseum, he appears to be a good guy who runs a clean ship and this is no fun to have to discuss, but nothing about Mike White's coaching gives me any confidence that he can turn this situation around and get us back to being relevant in college basketball.

    I wish I didn't disagree.
    I am a MW fan.
Also know that the guy has just gotten a LOT of bad breaks that were not his fault.
But, the sloppy play and brain farts that have continued for years have become trademarks. It has become like Muschamp football...ugly to watch. It just isn't fun anymore.
This team has some dogs on it. They play hard. But jeez Louise, they get sloppy, can't shoot and there is no one to handle the ball.
    Too many years of ugly.
MW represents so well, I wish him the best here or somewhere else.

Peter Burns, big LSU homer who snobs the Gators.
Not one thing was said about the homer calls coming down the stretch or even about his scummy coach and allegations, no, nothing Nada, just like the NCAA.

Okay, but then you have to fill it with a series of other accomplishments to make up for falling short on that metric from a reasonable expectation. You can't say that the only 2 things you care about is getting into the torunament and then winning, have him not win, and say it is reasonable not to win. If you are only going to have 2 metrics of success, you can't have him score 50% and then say that is reasonable performance.

And White would need former schools that go on probation.
