Crean's failure at UGA is a good example of that. IMO, there's a small list of options that could revive us. If they care about the program, they have to try to move heaven and earth to get one of them. I don't think they do. We'll get another White and wallow until a new President and AD decide a successful hoops program matters.
If Florida played with as much passion as they did last night, they would have won at Miss, but they didn't show up and now are once again out of the tournament. Similar to other years, we're losing games we shouldn't (including a horrific one at home), but other than the first few weeks of the season, there have been no big wins vs ranked teams. I know there are questions as to if White will be back another year, but imo should Florida be in the NIT, SS's decision will be a lot easier. I am in no way rooting for that as I want to get into the tournament, but I hope SS has seen enough either way.
Tommy Lloyd is kicking ass as the head coach of Arizona this season. He was Mark Few’s assistant at Gonzaga last year. Just saying.
Exactly how I feel. I think Mike White is greatly respected by everyone. I like him. But something is missing. Depth , recruiting big men, shooting have been issues with his teams. 7 years is fair. Time to move on I think .
If the university decides that it doesn't want to chase championships, I can live with that. Mike White is a great representative for the university and can be a longterm coach for a school that doesn't want to be in the national discussion or near the top of the conference. That isn't what UF has said they want from their athletics, so I expect a change to be made. But if they instead change their goals, I don't mind being atheltics being more about something to take the kids to than about winning championships. But currently there is a distance between their stated goals and the coach that it doesn't appear will change without a change.
I tend to agree. There is something definitely off. For whatever reason, it just doesn’t seem to ever click. He has had bad luck for sure but I just don’t get the warm and fuzzies inside that it will all of the sudden come together. Maybe it’s best for him to find a new home where he might find better luck.
If a Power 5 guy like this is getting it done, has proven he can recruit, he's worth a look. No more La Tech types. You either have the chops to recruit and compete against the big boys or you don't. We've seen what one who can't looks like, we don't need another one to see what can happen.
Face it, he's the Ron Zook of Florida gator basketball. Will recruit well but can't coach them. He's good for a 17-10 record every year. He loses nearly 90% of all road games. Given that, I see us finishing with 5 to 7 more losses. No way will we beat most teams on the road after what Ole Miss did to us. I actually think we might win one more road game this season - we have 5 left on the schedule. So if we win every home game, we finish with 12 losses, not good enough to make the NCAA tourney. If we lose one or 2 home games, we may not even make the NIT.
Let me clarify. We are not getting Tommy Lloyd. However, we should be considering the assistant coaches of programs that have great head coaches as well as the former assistants of great coaches.
Tampa explained his stance well. He didn't say we would take him from Arizona but it's fitting you would be the one to make that leap and subsequent snark
I don't know if I would call his career spotty. He struggled at Bama, which most all of their coaches have done, and even then he only had one losing season. But, in 2020 his Dayton team was 29-2, he was National Coach of the Year by AP, Naismith, NABC, among others.
Fair or not, we have no shot at competing in the SEC. The league has passed us, we need to get back to being more competitive. I do believe it is time to move on and get a new voice.
Yea, but Lloyd isnt leaving Zona for UF. Zona is probably a better job and Lloyd is a west coast guy.
