What you apparently don’t understand is it takes time to get the genetic markers back. Days/Weeks. After which the window to use mAb’s pretty much closes.

Which variant a patient has doesn’t even show up in patient charts. So I assume the CDC data on variants is some sort of statistical sampling method, but not available in real time to health care providers for individual patients, not on any wide basis anyway. It would be nice if it could, then you can target those few specific delta patients with Regeneron, but it doesn’t appear to exist. Tests don’t give that instant specificity. So whether Omicron is circulating 80%, 95%, or 99% is quite irrelevant to the continued use of the Regeneron drug. No credible healthcare person would suggest offering a drug that is USELESS against that large of a share, without being able to tell which variant a specific patient has. Not when there are other options that are substantially more effective across all variants including Omicron. Those are what need to be used.

Arguing to keep using Regeneron is pure quackery. Even the CEO of the company agreed with the FDA and is currently working on a reformulated version, which should be a few months away. But as far as the now ineffective treatment, might as well be touting horse paste.

I have never argued to continue using these new drugs. I have argued for new generations…

On the other hand. I bet you are taking your alpha variant booster. Quackery! o_O:confused:

I love how these guys are all for a new EUA treatment that involves an IV directly into the bloodstream for at least 30 minutes, and now doesn’t work, but a brief jab into the muscle with a thimble full of vaccine , that has been used billions of times, and has been proven to save lives in dozens of studies, is something to fear that may make your appendages fall of in 20 years.

    Seriously.

Who has "basic principles" that include being against vaccinations?

Makes no sense other than through the lens of his being influenced by disinformation.

This person is not anti-vaxx per se. He is a nurse who routinely gets the flu shot and hep vaccine (series of 3 shots by the way). He has severe afib and has been advised to to receive the vaccine.

What this man needed to do was to find a cardiologist who is up on most recent data on vaccination. For his condition the Ad.26 vaccine from J&J is an alternative to the mRNA. In addition, the Astrazenecca long acting MAB cocktail is an option for passive vaccinations for those unable to tolerate the standard vaccines.

There are options to resolve this if all parties were fully educated and WANTED this to get resolved without national media attention.

Americans are horribly undereducated and too reliant in one potentially undereducated or politically biased doctor for their Healthcare advice.

The vaccinate only with a new drug crowd are the ones that have lost their minds. Very few are anti-vax (not wanting to take a new drug for a disease that is low risk to them is not anti-vax). Even so…that is their decision.

This is all information that was not provided in the article and the relative was quoted saying man not getting a shot on principle. As you indicated there are medical alternatives and if the doctors did not know about them or failed to advise be patient that is shameful.

Yeah, my natural cynicism over almost any story on the web these days has led me a) minimize the number of stories I post about/ respond to but then b) read 3-4 different stories (hopefully not all sourcing the same information) and try to piece together a better idea before I say something. It is said we have to do that, but it seems like everyone has an angle these days and no one has an interest in just writing a complete, and apoloticial, a-judgemental story anymore.

Where are you getting this? The article quotes the father about his “principled stand”? It really does make it seem like it’s his choice, rather than due to medical condition.

How could the cardiologist not be on top of that?

Other articles mention he's a nurse and is fearful given his heart condition. But yeah, when cardiologists at one of the best hospitals in the country, if not world, are saying he needs to get vaccinated as a medical matter since transplants shut down the immune system and transplant patients must go on multiple drugs so the body doesn't reject the organ, then get vaxxed. It doesn't seem such a principled stand but I'll concede in reconsidering things, he's not quite anti-vax and his fear is understandable, but that's not principle, it's fear.

beat me to it curtis, interesting how it will be in 2 weeks when and if omicron patients start to die, or if the delta patients are the ones dying.

Read a different story form a local TV station this AM that had more details.

    https://fox8.com/news/hospital-patient-without-covid-shot-denied-heart-transplant/

What cardiologists do you know who are experts in epidemiology, immunology and drug interactions? The next one I meet with be the first. Hopefully, your cadiologist has been following the research and findings for the past 2 years. Guessing he or she was more interested in his or her family, personal well-being and wealth and maybe golf game. Doctors are humans like the rest of us, I have always been baffled at why people put so much trust in any one of them. Decisions like the one above should come after consult with numerous different doctors, and maybe they have, the article does not cover the part, but I am guessing against it.

Either way, there is clearly a disconnect here.

I wasn't sure if I should put this one here or in the OSHA thread.

COVID responsible for 1/3 of workplace deaths in NC last year, Department of Labor reports

RALEIGH, N.C. (WLOS) — On Jan. 26, North Carolina's Department of Labor released statistics on workplace deaths for last year.

Overall, deaths are down from 2020.

But COVID-19-related deaths made up more than a third of all workplace fatalities last year.

“Over 68% of the COVID-19 work-related fatalities investigated were associated with employees within the service industry, and the majority were employed in healthcare,” Kevin Beauregard, director of the state OSH Division, said in a press release.

    It is mind boggling.

The guy trusts medical science to paralyze him, knock him out, and stop his heart. To saw and break open his chest cavity. To *remove* his heart. To put in a replacement. To reattach all the major arteries. To close his rib cage and sew him back up. To rehabilitate him. To give him who knows what drugs to suppress his immune system so as to not reject his transplanted organ.

But when it comes to a quick jab with a vaccine, he doesn’t trust medicine. Sure, that makes total sense!
