I am coming to Gainseville Saturday and now another big down. When will we learn, you can never have enough bigs. I hope JJ is alright and Felder is feeling better, I guess basically, CC is waiting on the pros. Unbelievable year once again. I guess small ball, which I am not a big fan of, is the theme of this team and I hate relying on 3 point shooters.
I agree I think Castleton will shut it down for the year since this team isn't going to make the tourney
Such a shame it gad to end this way after starting out hot with a nice win over FSU to boot. So sad man
If we have to depend on Gatkek, well in no time the SEC will bring him down too. Hope he stays healthy. Tennessee knocked him around like he wasn’t there, plays hard and fast but wasn’t given the body to play the low post, LOL.
What amazes me about watching Jitoboh is that White didn’t start playing him until his junior year. That’s part of a pattern.
I think the covid has put a kink in CMW’s hands, but I think all early season games he should play all the guys he brings in. CMW’s recruiting should have had another big that had game, but he puts a premium on guards. Now if he recruited as well as the other SEC coaches, he would balance out the team. In his DD offense, of which I am not a fan, due to a missed three, allow many times, open looks on the other end, he has to have top shelf guards, one’s who can light it up in a high percentage and play stellar defense. Applybee tonight, I only saw one out of control pass, but his game tonight was worthy. Jones played as well as he could, but Tennessee’s two guard was winging threes at will. If Kennedy had more time earlier, the way this season has gone, we would be better off. He is very young but is going to get it together as he adjusts. But CMW has to give him time to grow on the court. With recruiting transfers, CMW sells his sole for instant gain and allows these guys all the playing time. My problem with that is that they are what he recruited and if they don’t pan out, well they have hurt the program from growing consistently. That is why no coach at Florida is going to win the killer guards, unless we use a good NIL program and put together a recruiting team, not as big as football, but both of these have to be in place for coaches that hold up the Florida standard, holier than thou!
I'm no longer apologizing for MW, but JJ was not in any shape to perform for more than a few minutes in game time until this season.
How do you know? People on here were saying that this season. Now we see that he can play 30 minutes or so in a game.
We have a LOT of bigs! We just have to find a bunch of middle schools to play to finish out the season. It is all relative.
I'm not labeling him a quitter...depending on the injury which we don't know about he would be making a smart decision for himself to shut it down and rehab. For all we know the UF doctors have told him he can't come back. If I was labeling him a quitter I would say he could play but decided to quit for his own interest like the football players that opt out of bowl games. I'm sure he would be playing if he wasn't injured. My theory is you don't become a high level D1 athlete with a quitter mentality...too much work and effort goes into it. You may be selfish and think of your best interest over the team but most of the quitters reveal themselves in middle school or high school.
Business decision I think, not quitter. I don’t blame players for putting their own health and future first, especially in view of how this season has gone. CC is going to keep getting beat up, especially with how White plays small ball. It’s a tough decision to make about playing hurt/dinged up and risking further injury.
Because in seasons past, he was visibly exhausted (hands on knees, breathless) after only a few minutes of game play.
Well after JJ went down, the picking were slim. As for finding middle school teams to play, as I look at our schedule for the rest of the year, can we ask for mercy?
If he played the next game, he might have gone 10 minutes, then 15 minutes, etc. In scrimmages in college, we could go for an hour or more. But, put a kid who hardly plays into an actual game and he quickly gets exhausted. Keep playing him, and he can start playing longer and longer without tiring.
Lol..he was also significantly heavier and you can tell by the lack of agility you saw when he was on the court. Granted he is not the most agile player now but it's night and day compared to what it was before.
