No, not at all. I gave him a "pass" for years. We're seeing the same problems year after year. Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes Turn and face the strange Ch-ch-changes Don't want to be a richer man Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes Turn and face the strange Ch-ch-changes There's gonna have to be a different man Time may change me But I can't trace time
There will be the MW apologists that will say he deserved more time but 7 years is plenty of time to evaluate if a coach is a good fit for a team or not. Those are the folks that consider sneaking into the tournament each season and a quick exit as a great season. I want a coach that wants and will achieve more than that.
No. Unless you want wash, rinse and repeat. At this point very apathetic to UF basketball. I've seen the replays over several years.
If we get a new coach he has some good player's to coach. JJ- C 6'11 Reeves- SF/ SG 6'7 Kennedy- combo G 6'4 Gatkek- PF 6'9 Reneau- PF 5* 6'8 Reed - C 6'10 Aberdeen- combo G 6'4 Edger- SG 47%from 3last year 18pt at Rice 6'5 Who ever the coach is has some players
No, its beyond sad that we have lost everything Billy D built here and just continue to accept this mediocre garbage. Mike White needed to be gone years ago, and its pathetic he's still our coach. Wish him well at a mid level school, where he belongs.
We lost everything Billy built, because everything Billy built was dependent on him, his system and his credibility. Looking back, maybe Anthony Grant was the guy who could have sustained it. However, Grant's post UF career has been somewhat spotty. No guarantees there. Our problem is no one of any stature wanted to follow Billy. This forced Foley to reach. Mike did better than I thought he would, for awhile. But as we all can see, the bill has come due. I'm no longer on the fence about Mike. I don't think he can do anything more than he already has. Here is the rub. The Poodles had Mark Fox for almost 10 years. He had some good years, some not so good, but they weren't terrible. They thought they could do better with Crean and the bottom has fallen out. They are now a beyond horrible program. I'm not convinced the same can't happen here. I'm not saying that we should keep Mike, but I'm also saying that things may very well get worse with the next mid major up and comer who we have to beg to come here.
Can the HS guys back out if he were to get fired? Also I wonder how much attrition from current guys would follow.
Count on it. We're looking at a total rebuild if he's removed. Not saying that he shouldn't go, but all of us should be prepared for the reality.
I think I mentioned that the religious ones of us needed to pray to St Jimmy V and ask his intercession with the next hire. We need a miracle if we want a program like we had with Billy.
I'd rather swing for the win and lose big, than keep watching this pathetic mediocre crap at Florida. Well I stopped watching this crap already, so I guess that's the point. No excuse for a top program and athletic budget like us to keep doing this nonsense.
Nope. I am a big MW fan. The man, no longer the coach. He had the opportunity. I am sorry he did not improve his game.
I'm on my 2nd Stoli Elit and soda and I will make a bold pronouncement....Pitino, Sr. I know he has his drawbacks but in a league of retread coaches (Barnes, Crean, Peterson, Howland, Martin, Pearl, etc), at least he's won some titles. Billy's mentor, same philosophy, and so on. Instant credibility, then again, maybe not. I think all of the strip joints that existed back in the day are gone, so maybe this could work. Then again, I haven't been to Hogtown in some time.
W Why he was not good last time in SEC. Has he been to a Elite 8 yet? How many times to the dance? I'd keep White if that was the choice.
Of the 2, Grant has been far more successful. He did a great job at VCU, not bad at Bama and is doing fine at Dayton. Still, if Grant couldn't "succeed" at Bama (where he had a winning record), what makes anyone think he would do any better at UF. We are in what I would consider a "quandary." We have elite expectations, but only one coach in our history that could deliver them. No one measures up to him. I wish I had an answer. We're not an elite program anymore and when we were, it was because of one man. It wasn't because of our administration, facilities, fan base, state, budget, etc.
