Gators Go for Fifth-Straight SEC Victory Against No. 11 LSU
    Andrew Hile UAA
The Gators haven't won five-consecutive SEC games since the 2008-09 season.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women's basketball will go for their fifth-consecutive Southeastern Conference victory, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since the 2008-09 season, on Sunday afternoon when No. 11/10 LSU comes to town for a 2 p.m. ET matchup.

The game will be streamed live on SEC Network+ with Kyle Crooks and Brittany Davis on the call. Tom Collett and Bree Maxwell will handle radio responsibilities on 98.1FM/850AM WRUF.
Sunday marks the 46th meeting between the Gators and Tigers, with LSU holding a 31-14 advantage in the series. Florida, however, claimed the last meeting, 73-66, on Feb. 13, 2021, snapping a five-game losing skid to the Tigers. The Gators are 8-14 against LSU at home.

On Thursday evening, Florida earned their second top-25 road victory of the season, demolishing #23/22 Kentucky in Lexington, 77-52. Behind 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists from Kiara Smith and 15 points from Alberte Rimdal, the Gators handed Kentucky their worst home loss since Jan. 17, 2008 when Tennessee defeated the Wildcats, 65-40. It was the also largest victory over Kentucky for UF since an 85-48 win on Jan. 7, 2001 in Lexington. UF outscored the opposition 40-16 in the paint and 25-2 off the bench. Florida's 25-point victory over #23 Kentucky marked the largest win over a top-25 squad since the 2003-04 season when they defeated #15 UC Santa Barbara, 75-59. It also was the largest win on the road over a top-25 squad since a 94-61 win over #20 Georgia on Jan. 7, 1998.

The Gators earned their fourth-straight win in the SEC after defeating Kentucky, marking the first time since the 2010-2011 season they've accomplished that feat. During that stretch, they defeated Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Arkansas consecutively. Georgia was ranked 22nd. The Orange & Blue haven't won five-straight since the 2008-09 season.

After earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors for her performances against Auburn and Alabama, Alberte Rimdal recorded her second-consecutive game with five triples, a feat never accomplished by a freshman at Florida before Thursday. She became one of just three freshmen to hit at least five threes in multiple games, joining Sha Brooks (2005-06) and Jaterra Bonds (2010-2011).7-2 record (5-1 SEC). Their lone loss came at the hands of No. 1, South Carolina, 66-60

LSU Faces Sunday Road Test At Florida
    LSU Athletics
GAINESVILLE, FLA. – The No. 11/10 LSU Women’s Basketball team (17-2, 5-1 SEC) will be back in action Sunday on to road at 1 p.m. CT in Exactech Arena against a Florida Gators team (14-5, 4-2 SEC) that has won four in a row.
“Florida is a very good basketball team,” said Head Coach Kim Mulkey who is looking for her 650th win as a head coach on Sunday. “I’m so impressed with their quickness, their speed, their transition game. They have a lot of players that they play, and they have a young lady that’s a freshman (Alberte Rimdal) that is killing it from the three right now. It’s going to be a very difficult game. They’re confident right now.”

LSU is off to its best start in 15 years since the Tigers began the 2006-07 season 20-2. Playing as well as anybody in the conference in Head Coach Kim Mulkey’s first year at LSU, the Tigers have combined hard-nosed defense with elite scoring to lead the conference with a +19.11 scoring margin. The Tigers also lead the conference and are No. 24 in the nation with 76.63 points per game.
It has started with elite guard play. Khayla Pointer is playing as one of the best players in the nation and is filling up the stat sheet every night averaging 18.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. She is six rebounds shy of becoming the first player in LSU history to eclipse 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.

Alexis Morris, who had 18 first-half points last Sunday against Vanderbilt, has been a dynamic addition on offense and is averaging 14.6 points per game. Jailin Cherry has started to bloom too and has totaled 32 points, 17 assists and 16 rebounds over the past two games, including in LSU’s overtime win over Missouri where Cherry hit numerous clutch shots down the stretch.
“You’ve got Morris, you’ve got Cherry, you’ve got Khayla, you’ve got Ryann (Payne),” Coach Mulkey mentioned her guards. “Those are four guards that, who are you really going to focus on? Because they will all light you up. They will rebound the ball as small guards. They will all defend you with speed and quickness. It is a blessing to have that much speed, that much talent, on one team together. They complement each other well.”

In the post Faustine Aifuwa has been the best shooting player in SEC play. The center is shooting 65.5-percent from the field in conference play to lead the SEC by nearly 10 percentage points.

“That’s a big thing for her,” Coach Mulkey said. “The means she’s taking shots she’s capable of making. She’s mixing it up facing the basket. She’s getting you offensive boards. She’s battling and she’s getting put backs.”

Coach Mulkey said Autumn Newby, LSU’s leading rebounder and most athletic big, will be back on Sunday at Florida after exiting the Missouri game with an injury and missing the Vanderbilt game.

After a full week without playing a game, LSU will head to Florida to face a team that has been hot. After losing its first two games in SEC play, the Gators have won four in a row and defeated No. 23 Kentucky on the road Thursday night by 25 points.

Alberte Rimdal is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week after going 6-for-6 (5-for-5 from three) and scoring 17 points in Florida’s win over Alabama. Thursday against Kentucky she attempted only threes and was 5-for-6 with 15 points. The recent scoring surge of Rimdal combined with other dynamic scorers like Kiara Smith (13.8 ppg) and Jordyn Merritt (10.5 ppg) gives LSU a challenge defensively. Florida pushes the ball down the court quickly offensively and uses a full-court press in an attempt to create turnovers on defense.

Huge game today for the Gators. We need Faith Dut to play at a high level without fouling for us to hang.

Really surprised at how well we are playing. Tough game today. If we win our 5th straight SEC game I will be completely convinced this team is the real deal.

Definitely tough, but this one is winnable at home. We have several tough ones in a row. We have 4 wins over 4 of the bottom 5 in the conference. Our next 4 games are against 4 of the top 5... luckily 3 are at home. Hope the fans show up and help us pull an upset or two. This is probably the most winnable of the 4.

33-33 at the half. Smith leading the way for the Gators, followed by Broughton.
Oliveira is a better player than she showed in the first half.

Both teams missed a bunch of layups in the first half.

Yeah, they're making their layups now and we're still missing ours. 45-43, LSU.

Smith fouled on the way to the hoop, LSU's Cherry didn't like the call, gets a T.
She's been flirting with getting one most of the game, grousing about every call. Great chance for the Gators to take the lead back.

Cherry was yelling at the refs while on the bench, she should have gotten a 2nd T

Lsu is a bunch of little bitches. Pointer’s entire game is trying to draw lame fouls. Mulkey looks like skeletor and she paints her face to emphasize it. Weird.
