Just looking at some ESPN recruiting info and according to their site we only offered 3 PGs in this class and all are already committed or signed elsewhere. IMO PG is this team's most glaring deficiency next to 3pt shooting...how has this not been addressed through recruiting? Is this staff just resigning themselves to the portal again? We finally have a top tier center incoming as a freshman but who the heck is going to get him the ball? Interested if anyone knows if the staff is taking steps to address this yet.
Why use recruiting when we have the portal? As Costanza would say, "The door? Why would I go out the door? The window's right here." Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
I agree with your post. White really mis-calculated that the transfer guards could play the point. As for next year, the Gators have signed 6'4 PG Denzel Aberdeen in the 22 class. Apparently is a really good shooter from 3 so definitely a good signing. Still think White needs another true pg in the portal for next year.
ESPN has him listed as SG, other sites as a combo guard. Not sure he is the answer at the point that we're looking for but time will tell
You can check out all of the box scores for the City of Palms at their website. Aberdeen played pretty well in that event.
Here's a clip from City of Palms a month ago. Denzel Aberdeen is #1 on the Panthers. Looks pretty good to me. Has a sweet stroke from 3. He'll be a nice addition and play right away imo with the way he can shoot.
I haven’t seen him play. I don’t go to games anymore. If he shows up on YouTube or on regular TV and I get the chance to watch him, I will report back.
I think you've had good instincts over the years on what is needed from PG. When you look at high school video, what are you looking for in a PG?
Yes, watched a few times. He’s combo but he’d be our 2nd best option right now to Appleby. I know some people have said Applebee coming off the bench is best but if you look at the metrics I’m pretty sure when he’s not in the game we struggle handling the ball and creating a true offense.
It's not so much that I think the team plays better with him coming off the bench as it is he seems to be playing better coming off the bench. Or maybe I should say he has played more within himself. With that said I look for him to return to the starting role very shortly.
I know you were asking TJ I gave my two cents. To me either position so I would categorize it as a combo guard which obviously makes him very valuable or his high school team he handles the ball much more than any other and he handles it very well. It says a lot about him that I think if you were on our team right now he would be our second point guard that he steps on campus.
