The 4th foul was a horrendous call, he gets blatantly held and didn't even react or retaliate and it's on him?!
With CC out for at least a little while, it's imperative that JJ stays out of foul trouble. The 4th foul call on him was a total joke but that's why he has to be more careful with cheap fouls like he got in the first half. He only played 16 minutes last night, but Imo that has to be closer to 25 if Florida is going to keep winning some games.
I'm wondering if this is close to what his weight is going to be from here on out. I would think he may lose a bit more from more play but I don't think he'll ever be confused for someone who is svelte. He's a big ole fellow and a load to deal with for opposing players.
JJ is a victim of the big man getting called for ticky-tack fouls because he's such a force of nature vs little pesky guards getting away with bloody murder. He breathes on someone and gets called while others hold and grapple him without a whistle. At least he's FAR more agile now and can wiggle out of those situations a lot better than before
Yeah it's a shame this isn't the 80s, we could use him as a battering ram in pick and rolls and around the basket. As it is now he gets a foul call for brushing past someone
I thought that we had a number of bad calls against us last night, but it is bad form to complain about the officiating when you win.
Soon as he realizes that a foul is the worst thing to do when you get beat off the dribble or didn't get good position for a rebound he will be AOK. Fouls can't correct mistakes.
One of the most amazing things I saw with Shaq in a college game was doing a break away and dribbling the full length of the court to score. A player that size handling the ball with that much deftness was a rare site.
JJ has great hands. And very nimble feet. Hopefully, he'll have some success the rest of the year and get motivated to lose weight in the off season. And get in better shape.
And anybody getting hear to Shaq was going to get a foul. Just saying that the myth of big guys getting called for fouls is a myth. Star big players get a pass.
Hungry Shaq is the most dominant player in NBA history. Unfortunately we only got about 4 years of Hungry Shaq, spread across about 8 seasons. Way to quick for his size, but coasted for so much of his career. If he had Jordan's drive and focus, Shaq would have rewritten the record books. But then again, he wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
I know I'm dating myself, although Shaq was incredible Wilt Chamberlain was even more dominant. For his career Wilt averaged 30.1 points and 22.9 rebounds per game.
Playing against a much weaker talent pool. But yes, Wilt was amazing. They complained he scored too much, so he led the league in assists.
If you look at all the big men that Wilt played against, I would guess that he played against a stronger talent pool. Start with Bill Russell. Throw in Jabbar. Keep going.
