I know there’s no points for MVG but geesh Castleton gotta be MVG with blocks/ defensive presence. Shame he was not given more offensive opportunities.
I tought I had a chance, just 3 points off the total and then the first pick by @ApexNC missed it by just 2
It's been obvious that the Gators were struggling at guard, so Jones and Appleby were on the bench to start this one. Has there been any game as such this season? The highlight today must be Reeves getting 23min and scoring 14. Team FT shooting improved to the tune of 66.7%, as did FG% (55.1). Castleton had a great game behind 10pt/7rb/8 blks, but he got edged by Reeves for MVG. I don't think anybody had Kowacie for MVG, but will check. Lost in all of this was another solid outing by Jitoboh. Here's your winner . . . good pick! Nobody got the MVG, but @thenazz got SC's score (+.5) and I got the Gator's score (+1). Without any stats to back it up, I think this game had the tightest score differential all season amongst all people who played. A lot of folks were very close.
You're probably right. The game ended pretty close to the way expected. Both teams scored about where expected and several people came w/in 4 or 5 pts. I missed by5.
I have no skin in this game but CC not being MVG is insane. I didn't even post a pick for this. But I am not running this thing this year so whatever they want to do is up to them.
Got to remember MVG does not mean Most Valuable Gator. MVG means Many Varieties of Garbage. Great game by Kowacie and not to take away from his improvement but without CC we don't win this game. Oh by the way I picked Fleming but I'm calling it as I see it. I guess if anything this rating system is giving Davis something for us all to ponder, right or wrong.
I appreciate you bringing this up in a respectful manner. So everyone can understand how the VPS works, I'll break today's result down. And folks want to bitch and complain about it (not you, shane) in the future, I'll refer them back to this post. First, let's look at the positive stats. player.....pts.....rbs.....asst.....stls.....blks.....subtotal CC..........10.......7........2(4)......0........8(16)...37 KR..........14.......2........0..........2(4)....0.........20 The subtotals above are the numerators. Notice that assists, steals, and blocks are x2, so Castleton was awarded 16pts for his 8 blocks. Now, let's look at the negative stats. player.....ftmiss.....fgmiss.....fouls.....TOs.....subtotal CC...........0............3(6)..........1(2)......2(4).....12 KR...........1............2(4)...........0.........0..........5 Subtotal of the neg stats is the denominator. Castleton 37 / 12 = 3.08 rounded up to 3.1 Reeves 20 / 5 = 4.0 VPS accounts for efficiency and "penalizes" volume stats. If Reeves had just one foul, Castleton would have been the MVG. Instead, Reeves played by far his best game as a Gator with zero fouls and zero turnovers. He tied Fleming for top scorer. I acknowledge that Castleton is our best player but I'm glad Reeves got this one. Happy for him and the contest would be less interesting if CC always got folks the +.5. Now @Matherly87, you may take your "garbage" and stick it.
Here comes the dislike. Appreciate that @gatordavisl, I really don't care. Please I know I'm not being disrespectful to you. I'm just calling attention to the ratings system that is being used. I remember you saying at the start of the year it wasn't always the top scorer or who some people would think was the best player. But the further we go the more often this rating is off. It seems to put more emphasis on other stats like shooting percentages but doesn't take into effect the value a player gives for the whole game, not just the short time they might have played or how often they were in their banging away with the competition they face each time down the court. As to this season long Pick Em contest I appreciate you doing this and sticking with it. I look forward to each game and the banter we all have throughout the season. I even like where the both of us sit right now in the rankings. You certainly seem to have a knack for getting at least one of the scores right more often than the rest. I hope I can close the gap and give you, Grateful, and fda a good challenge to close out the season. So stick it where you want, I've said my peace.
