When I was in my 40’s, I’d get with a friend (in his 30’s) and play some teenagers in pickup games in basketball. Two on two.

When they shot the ball and missed, they would get frustrated and upset.

Meanwhile, we’d get the rebound, kick the ball out, kick it get back in, and score an easy basket. Time after time.

When we shot and missed, we’d forget the bad shot we took, and got back on defense immediately.

It sounds like our players might be playing like the teenagers we played.

I can recall one play last night where we had very crisp ball movement and scored off of it. Not saying there were not more but that's the kind of play we need a lot of. We took 31 shots from outside and only made 7 of them.

    Of our starters
Appleby only took 1 shot which he scored on.
Reeves took 2 shots, both from outside and scored on one of them
Jones took 12 shots of which 9 were from outside and only scored on 2 of them.
Duruji had a fairly good night shooting 4-7 overall but missed both of his outside shots
CC carried the load again going 7-10 from the floor, 5-6 from the charity stripe and gathering in 9 boards.

I can one up you on this.

I used to play noontime pick up and many of the old guys were engineering profs so not what you would think of as basketball studs even though many of them played high school and even college ball.

Late in the day Dwayne Dixon showed up with five receivers from the UF football team and wanted to play a game. We were done and wanted to get back to work, but Dwayne begged us to play a game. He told his receivers that he would play with us. They laughed. He said "You will be surprised".

Now Dwayne Dixon played with us all the time and knew that we could play.

Dwayne and us four engineering profs kicked their asses.

Maybe Dwayne was trying to make a point to them. I don't know.

It is my second most favorite basketball memory.
