SMH!!!!!! I hate the culture this basketball team has right now. Yes ut means that much to me as a fan! I'm sorry but that is trash IMO. Sure uf you want to cheer for Georgia because you grew up in Athens sure but rubbing it in Florida fans is another. I'm at a lost for words.
Not sure why people would expect a lot of one-year transfer guys to be fully invested in the culture of gator fandom. This is what you get
Yep, look I'm not saying he can't cheer for the team he grew up watching like Halsem with Miami. However, to do it publicly and to troll Gator fans on social media is a totally different thing. All you had to do was say "look Gator Nation I love playing here but this is my childhood team and I'm happy for them. After tonight it's back to business." Sure some fans will still give a side eye but the way he did it literally put extra pressure on White that wasn't needed. Why? Because Gator fans are relentless when they smell blood in the water
As I recall Udonis Haslem (Gator great) was a lifelong Canes fan. I’d imagine he celebrated the Canes football ‘ship in 2001 while he was on the Gators basketball team. But there was no social media back then so we don’t know if he was “talking trash” about it to anyone. I don’t see it as a big deal. That being said, dude needs to be more aware of what he’s doing on social media.
Pulling for your childhood team is one thing, but going online and essentially taunting your fanbase....even to the point of planning to drive around rubbing in to YOUR team's fans that their biggest rival won...that's just wrong. I think UF has done very well in the transfer portal in basketball, but maybe, just maybe we should have a mix of multi-year talent along with transfers. Mercenaries are great for plugging holes...not sure it's best that all of our starting five are transfers.
Lets set some parameters here. Real life is different than sports fandom. I don't qualify people how they act with their sports teams because too many good people I know act like total idiots and Aholes when it comes to sports. I don't know the guy and he may be a great person but taunting the fans of the school you play for is a trash move and shows a lack of respect and awareness for where you are and Why you are here. He's literally taunting the fans that cheer him on. Wtf? Also I expect to here from some usual suspects that will point out fans turn on players all the time so tough. Those fans are trash too. One act does not excuse the other and a big difference is that the coach, school and team are why a player is even at a school to begin with.
Lol..bottom line, it's not a good look and didn't make it any easier on your coach from a fan perspective. Again, this could've been avoided by saying "I love UF and love being here but tonight I want to celebrate my childhood team as a fan etc..." That's the part I have issue with and knowing Gator fans, they are going to attack back with relentless effort whether that is fair or not for him. All that could've been avoided too and creates yet another distraction for Mike White that wasn't needed.
I imagine the loss at Auburn with him getting the crap beat out of him, didn’t make him even a little humble. Even our worst shooter got a couple to go down. He needs to ride the bench for a while to find he isn’t the big dawg in the SEC. Young and dumb! Our culture under our BB Coach! Come here and show us how you can’t finish plays at the basket due to being in a league that is above you. Felder is the only transfer that is SEC tough enough and talented enough. At this point I would start building for next year since our transfer guards are Not SEC ready. Start kowacie Reeves at the three and Kennedy at the two, what do you lose. Answer nothing! Might even find that these guys can shoot and finish at the hoop. Right now we are one dimensional scoring!
Root for who you want to but have a little respect for the school that gave you a scholarship and maybe don't flaunt it.
Yeah, we get the guy is from Athens, but this is punk shite to put it all over social media. This team, smh
If I'm coach I'd sit him for a game at least to do him a favor. The best time to learn about the repercussions of social media is sooner rather than later. Maybe sitting him during the uga game would be best.
Georgia won? Damn. I watched about two minutes of the first half and that was it. I don't f-ing care about football at any level. My MIL is almost 90 years old and from Texas and she says that in Texas they participate in child sacrifice on every autumn Friday night.
It's embarrassing he felt the need to even explain himself. Kid plays his ass off every game for us, so what he was happy his childhood team won a natty in a different spot.
