Okay, I’ll happily rephrase: had a childhood fever.

Amazingly, America’s leading racketeer is still widely venerated.

So why is a childhood fever a good thing?

This. At 105 or higher you're risking seizures, etc. My daughter spiked one when she was around 2 & I literally ran her to a tub and put her in warm water (never do full cold at first) to get her temp down. All while I was dialing the peds. Got her down to 102 then took her in but holy smokes that was scary. She'd also broken out - she was having an allergic reaction to her antibiotic.

Do not mess with high fevers especially in babies/kids.

General fevers are good because it's the body's way of fighting infection. The immune system is kicking into gear to fight. This is why kids run fevers after getting immunizations. You use acetaminophen & the like for comfort & to make sure you don't reach a danger point. Antibiotics are used to help fight what is making the body react.

Frankly I've used alcolado (sp?) plus cold compresses more often than not. That, Vicks, Sprite- the triad of a Latin household :D

Nah, 105 fevers in kids only make them stronger. And if they die, it thins the herd of the weak ones.

If your kid has a 105 fever and you aren't in fear you're a terrible parent.

Seems as if we're getting some rectal verbalization from this poster. No links, backtracking, etc.

You haven’t been paying attention. My link refuting virology was roundly jeered for not having been authored by a virologist. Go figure.

Well sure, but that is only if you believe in viruses (which that poster doesn't). If viruses don't exist, what is the immune system fighting when you also don't have bacteria or fungal infection?
