I don’t want the program to have to start over, but it is interesting the insiders are restless now too. I sure hope these past few are a tough stretch and it turns around, but once the insiders start calling for heads to roll, things can escalate quickly. Here’s to hoping Saturday is the beginning of a change.
I would bet I know who that is. He’s never been a fan. And it’s been 7 years of the same, it’s not changing, we have what we have in our coach. Either you accept this level of play or you don’t.
Think the writing is on the wall. That wasn't even that great of a Bama team. If this team makes it into the tournament, it won't be by much. I'd say it's 50/50 right now. If they get in, don't think they're going too far. Could actually see the wheels fall off. Gators were so undisciplined and seemed like White sat and said nothing the entire 2nd half. Auburn is about to blow us out of the water and our confidence might be shot. Most likely starting 0-3 in the SEC unless we shoot lights out vs LSU. That game really might be the season. Don't think this team will recover if they do. Really sucks as this season started off so well. Once teams have scouted us, we've had no answer. The only thing that saves White at this point is to somehow make the sweet 16. Since that's highly unlikely, should they not make the sweet 16, really hope SS makes the right hire. It's time. White had a fair shot.
Not U 2 Jared! (No I'm not talking about the band).......lol Right now, it's really hard for me to NOT agree with your assessment. But remember, in past seasons when it looked like the Gator boat was sunk, we bounced back. Lets not seal the coffin with that final nail just yet.
Last night I was defending him from the specific game attacks, much of which he has no control over (missed FTs, PG can't make layups, waaaaay too many TOS, etc). That said, I wouldn't shed a tear if he was no longer our coach. This is his team and it's what he made it. We can't get P5 PGs that can run his system and it really shows. Sometimes they'll have great plays or a great game, but it's not consistent.
I keep hoping for / expecting White to turn things around. But after 7 years or whatever I can’t point to any progress with the program. Lots of explanations and excuses but no progress. The team is hard to watch. Again…..
We should hire Niko Medved from Colorado St. He’s a young Coach who is analytics driven and he’s great at Xs and Os. A bigger name is Chris Steele from Xavier.
The sad thing is the lack of people complaining about this loss. Apathy is a clear sign that a change is needed barring some miraculous turnaround. Right now this team looks like the worst coached Mike White team and this is a senior laden team. How many times did it look like the Gators could go on a run in the 1st half only for Appleby to take a bone headed shot or go to the rim taking on 3 defenders? 2nd year under White and he's averaging 2.5/TO's game to just 3.2 Ast/game. Throw in the fact his fg% is just 36%, down 5% pts from last year, showing how horrible his shot selection is. Imo, he should only be playing the 2 as he can't be trusted with the ball. Use either Jones or Kennedy at the point for now. What was Mike White doing in the 2nd half? He literally just sat there totally looking shell shocked with no clue what to do. We were playing best with a bigger line-up in the 1st half, but we saw nothing like that in tthe 2nd. At least try and do something different. Put in some combo of of CC, Jitobah, Duruji or Felder and see what happens. 3 guard lineup isn't working for this team. Can't shoot well so makes no sense. How in year 7, has White not addressed his obvious offensive deficiencies. He's the only one ever standing talking to the players during the game and White's halftime adjustments are not existent. This could have been addressed with an offensive guru type but White is too stubborn and didn't want to give up control. At this point, how exactly are we going to win a lot of games. This team looks completely lost. Double CC and the Gators are an easy W. How the heck is Bama a better basketball program than us. Totally unacceptable to be at best in the middle of the pack of the SEC as a program. I don't see Bama as a great team. A good Gator team wins last night, but we don't even closely resemble that right now. This year, there is no Mann, Chiozza or even Nembhard at times that can take over a game single handily. Without that guy, White's flaws are being exposed once the other team makes adjustments. Hard to have any excitement right now. Imo and have previously stated but the LSU game is the season. Can't start 0-3.
Lotta good points here and I appreciate you backing up your stance in a detailed fashion. My one quibble is that you might be putting too much stock in this Bama game. We will most likely be 0-3 or 1-2 in the SEC, but our schedule began brutally. Let's see where we're at midway through the conference season.
Saw the title and it made me laugh. People here have been calling for him to be fired since the first time a player missed a shot in the first game he coached here.
it's difficult to overstate how important this is - Gainesville is NOT a basketball town. without an exciting UF Men's basketball Team pushing the attendance, it's probably one of the worst basketball towns in the entire SEC. apathy is the absolute killer. I have never seen it this bad, Gainesville has completely given up on Mike White. lots of fellas on this message board might throw a comment on a post about how much they "support" Mike White and this boring and losing team, but that sure is different than making a six-hour round trip drive up to Gainesville on a Wednesday night. looks as if NOBODY is supporting this program with butts in seats. I have been a Gator Basketball fan since Stacey Poole (I was only 5 when Mad Max led us to our first MBB successes), and I do believe I personally witnessed the moment Gator Basketball died - that Texas Southern game will become much worse as time progresses, already it is worse than Muschamp's Georgia Southern loss bc Jerick McKinnon was unarguably the best player on the field that day and remains the best NFL player from that game. having been at both the GSU and TSU losses, I can unequivocally say that TSU was worse.
