He arrives from Mississippi State where he spent the last two seasons (2020-21) as a strength and conditioning coach after serving as the assistant director of athletic performance for football at UAB in 2019. Watkins was head strength and conditioning for football at Texas Southern from 2016-18 and the head of the department for Stillman College from 2014-16.

Watkins played defensive line for the University of Alabama from 2007-11 and was part of two National Championship teams in 2009 and 2011.

Following his collegiate career, he signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2012 and also the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) a year later.

Tiger Jones was announced as the Gators director of speed improvement and skill development by head coach Billy Napier on Saturday.

Jones arrives to The Swamp after spending last season at Arizona as an assistant strength coach. He worked under Napier at Louisiana from 2018-20 in the role of assistant director of strength and conditioning after spending 2017 in the Texas A&M strength and conditioning department.

A native of Mobile, Ala., he played eight years in the Arena Football League (AFL) and was the Wide Receiver of the Year in 2011. Jones was a three-time First Team All-Arena selection and two-time second team recipient. He finished his career with 1,041 receptions for 14,329 yards and 286 receiving touchdowns.

He played four seasons (2000-04) at Louisville as a wide receiver and played in 47 career games. Jones was a member of the Washington Football Team in 2005 and was in training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012.

An average offense wins a title with those defenses. Instead we had horrific offense for several years.....

Then Mullen squandered a rejuvenated offense with an awful defense.

    Lord make it end.

Turns out excelling at offense AND defense (and special teams to boot) is not as easy as you'd think.

But we didn't need to excel really. Just functional would have done it. Better yet not trying to be Bama who ended up dumping their own offensive philosophy a few years later anyway.
