It was likely covered already, but when you say healthcare workers are you talking specifically about in the Covid Ward, or all healthcare workers throughout all facilities?

What is the upside? If there was another variant that was deadly and escapade like Omicron, id take it if they updated the vaccine to that new variant.

The upside is it might help. The downside is it can't hurt.

Per all the data we have so far, the upside is it does help.

All workers, from nursing to office staff, doctors to custodial. Even if you work remotely.

I say good. There shouldn't be a test out option. Remains that compelling people to get vaccinated is the best path through this mess, even if people already had covid. Other than elderly/those with serious health issues, it's not the vaccinated in the hospitals and morgues.

And you know, if everyone was vaccinated, there would be less restrictions and more normalcy.

Oh ok. So it's way safer to have Covid positive staff caring for people than unvaccinated with PPE.

Btw they're sending military support to ECMC because....they're short staffed. They actively have covid positive staff that can spread this thing, but that's ok, because they're vaccinated. *facepalm*

And the newest thing...all nursing home visitors, even daily ones, must provide proof of vaccination and a negative covid test. But they're allowing covid positive & symptomatic staff to work there caring for the elderly/vulnerable.

its not as if the vaccines are 100% safe. Very safe yes but not without incident.
Like I said, if they updated it to a more recent variant, I would take it.

It sort of depends on the nature of the case and the background infection rate. Should a person that just tested positive for Covid be at work? No. But some people test positive for up to 6 weeks. So you could test positive and not really be contagious at all. At the same time, there is high contagiousness right before symptoms, so minimizing possible infection, theoretically, could be more important than limiting access to a person who was symptomatic long ago and is still testing positive. It would depend on the probability of an unvaccinated person getting Covid at any given time and the length of time after infection by the employee. That is fundamentally an empirical question.

It's safest to have everyone vaccinated and to have all healthcare workers wearing ppe. Having staffing issues that might require allowing positive covid healthcare workers to work doesn't imo change that. Big difference between staff and visitors in such an environment. One is a risk for which conditions make it necessary to take, the other is not a necessary risk.

They have real questions about the enabling legislation under OSHA to support vaccination and federalism issues.

Vaccines have shown themselves to be incredibly safe (100% would not be a reasonable standard). Despite the elusiveness of omicron against infection, you, me, dupree are all better off vaccinated than not because vaccinations keep people out of the hospital and the morgue. Remaining unvaxxed is to me like playing a football game w/o protective equipment bc the ones issued aren't as effective against bruising.

Ok. It doesn't make sense. Think about it without blinders on. There are people who visit daily to help care for elderly parents. They will have to show a new negative test each time.

If the PPE is good enough for you to protect people being treated by Covid positive workers while symptomatic, then why isn't it good enough for unvaccinated workers who were willing to test consistently?

With my status if I were in a hospital, I'd be more likely to get Covid and thus extremely sick from the symptomatic, infected worker than the unvaccinated worker. I thought the point was patient safety & keeping patients safe?

Guess not. I guess scoring political points is more important than actual patient safety.

All patients are tested for covid no matter what they come in for. Surgical patients get tested as part of their preop. So I don't doubt it.
