Those guys can make great slot receivers too... But I agree that we need a Toney type/sized receiver to play slot.

nearly every catch he catches at the high point and with his hands rather than the body. That's what we need. Kyle Pitts did that and it was why he was such a sure handed receiver

I’m just rambling but I was thinking and wondering if anyone else agrees; I’m not really in love with our WR room. The lack of top end speed and how none of our WR’s seem like they have 1k yard potential. I mean, maybe some do and because of our QB play last year and our perchant to spread the ball around to pass catchers under Mullen may have devalued some of our returning WR’s, but I’m not confident in them intimidating opposing defenses.

Again, let me say, scheme change and hopefully an improved AR15 (or whoever is our starting QB) can change that.

Which is kinda why, although you can find fault in CJ Smith as a prospect (health and lack of hs production), his speed would have been a tremendous assest. Gibson seems along the lines of most of our current WR’s and it would have been great to have em, but not losing sleep over him going to OU. Losing Bond hurt no matter HOW you slice it.

Outside of Caleb Douglas and trying to flip Utah commit Justis Lowe, don’t really see us active AT THIS TIME for the remaining HS WR’s.

  11. I agree completely... We don't have a WR that gives any opposing defense or opposing staff pause, let alone fear that have line up against or have a plan for... I do think that will change in the next couple of recruiting cycles though..

CBN is looking for that Amari Cooper, jeudy mold receiver and I'm confident he will land them..

oh yea, I’ll tell you this, if you haven’t taken a gander at the 247 state rankings for Florida for 2023, I’d advise to do so and you’ll see the state is LOADED with WR’s and I’m confident we’ll get one or a few of them. 9 of the top 50 players in state are WR’s with the lowest being ranked 256th overall player in the nation (a Lakeland kid at that)

Funny how now Lakeland is where we feel more confident in getting recruits out of, and where there are a lot of top recruits located. Used to be Belle Glades. Hopefully soon it will be the whole state!

And what's crazy is that we kinda haven't been that successful with the top kids in Lakeland the last few years or them not panning out like we've thought they would lol. You're right about Belle Glades, I remember when we use to clean up that area

I think you’re absolutely correct, I think we sign one of those bonafide speedsters this year tho, not one that is only fast but a super high 4 or 5 star type. It’s truly a glaring need in the room and makes all of our possession receivers better, meaning it would be insane not to address.

Unless i miss one of them, only one of them has UF on their top list.

  17. I really hope we go after Mario Williams with a vengeance and land him from the portal... That would be an instant upgrade. I would like to see more of Marcus Burke on the field because he's a gem waiting to be polished.

I’m highest on Fraziars. He seems to have the best combination of size and quickness of all our WR’s. Shorter and hendo have shown flashes but like you said, I don’t think there’s anyone intimidating in our WR room when it comes to being able to take the top of the defense, as it seems like the previous staff only wanted to recruit possession guys who were like 6’3-6’4, not great sprinters. You have to have those shorter, speedy guys like Smith-njigba, olave, Josh Downs, Jordan Addison, etc. to keep the defense honest

There’s so many unproven guys like Burke, Reynolds, and weston. Man I WISH we would’ve gotten Bond or Stewart.

I like Fraizers. I don’t think Whittemore is all that slow of a guy too is he?

Bond or Stew would have been tremendous and immediate starting ability in the slot. And Shorter is so weird. He’s not fast but somehow he stays getting behind the defense when his number is called on a deep route and the ball is usually overthrown but he gets open. One guy i think offense missed in the middle part of the season was Whittemore. He’s so solid as a WR. I’ve grown to appreciate him
