There was no data at the time that showed NY should be getting double the allotment of FL. Tough one to explain.

so you are re-enforcing the notion that the vaccines are not what we were told they would be, ie protection from covid.

being vaccinated did not save by brother in law from dying, or countless others for that matter so dont tell me she would not have died.

so, I am told that it can still hurt like hell to get shot while wearing a bullet proof vest. Do you think it offers no protection?

I assume you are grossly uninformed or lack the critical thinking to follow the plot. This may help you: New Study Adds More Evidence for Omicron Immune Evasion

do you acknowledge that not all covid variants are the same? if you don't recognize that simple fact it is pointless trying to discuss it with you any further.

can you show me anybody that claimed that the vaccine would protect people from infection of any and all variants?

the vaccine is largely effective against preventing infection from delta and preventing serious illness or death from even the variant. you seem to want the issue to be black and white when it is not.

it honestly just feels like you are trolling when you ignore the differences and make blanket statements that are not linked to any person or reality.

Boosted 12/2. Pfizer. Nothing is stopping this variant from getting through from what I can see. It’s just a matter of severity of disease now. I have no symptoms. This is nothing like the first strain which kicked my ass for a week and lost taste/smell for 6 weeks.

Just hoping that this will be the variant that burns us through to some sort endemic status. Seems like everyone I know has covid right now. Absolutely crazy.

seems like the booster loses a lot of ability to prevent infection after 3 - 4 months. Our family is on month 2 of the booster )pfizer), hope to make it thru the wave without getting infected but if not then hopefully it will be mild. we have had two infections in the office that I know I was in close proximity to but never had any symptoms yet...

Have to agree. I know more people in my social circle have come down with it in the last 2-3 weeks than in the entire 2 years prior.

My wife and I traveled over the holiday break. By plane. Even with KN95s, I won't be shocked if we come down with it. It's been 48 hours since our last flight... the clock is ticking. Best I can say is that we're vaxxed and boosted, so even if we do, it's very likely to be mild.

Think I'm gonna go out for a run now...

Two acquaintances of mine got Omicron recently. One was vaccinated, and one relied on immunity from previous infection. The good news, both have mild cases, and should be out of self isolation by the end of the week.

The vaccine is not a cure. It's not a force field that protects a vaccinated person from getting a breakthrough case either. There were even breakthrough cases with the wild type, and the J&J vaccine never had better than a 67% efficacy rate of preventing infection. But what J&J has done, and continues to do is prevent the majority with a breakthrough case from getting a serious case.

Here's a recent study from Great Britain, which generally has high vaccination rates. 2/3 of the people in the hospital with COVID are unvaccinated, and the unvaccinated are 8X more likely to end up in the hospital. And the more doses of the vaccine a person has received, the lower the chance of ending up in the hospital with COVID. Is it an iron clad guarantee you won't end up in the hospital No. But what works better at keeping people out of the hospital? Again, it's like a seat belt. No guarantee that if you end up in a wreck you won't get hurt or worse, but in increases your odds you will walk away from an accident. So no reason not to wear it.

And while it is changing the goal posts, with Omicron, it's time to stop counting cases and start counting hospitalizations as the major data point. With the way Omicron spreads, it will be virtually impossible to avoid unless you live like a hermit. And if the vaccine makes Omicron like an annoying cold 99% of the vaccinated population quickly gets over within a week, then we've reached a stage where cases themselves aren't a huge issue.

Since you seem to be uninformed, here's a good overview of the potential strategies and issues regarding ongoing covid vaccines. AAAS

Been through this too many times. Not going to say the same thing again and again. Another study today on vaccine effectiveness as to transmission. Much lower and much lower risk to others. Health care workers who don’t get the vaccine late just increasing the odds they get sick and everyone else gets sick. I am tired of it and I didn’t politicize it. My post was directed to those who have. You can’t respond about science denying fact denying politicians without addressing their politics. I am fed up with those of us who promote a safer world from being accused of playing politics when it isn’t us.

They have confirmed genomic testing done to confirm that? That is hardly done and if so it takes weeks to months to get those results.

By far most of the time its not done. Most just make an assumption.

PCR tests are cycled up to 41 times. They will find covid from months ago at that level.
