Gators to Welcome New Year with Nationally-Ranked Georgia on Sunday
    Andrew Hile
Sunday will mark the SEC-opener for Florida following the postponement of the Mississippi State game.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women's basketball is set to open Southeastern Conference play on Sunday afternoon when #13/12 Georgia heads to Exactech Arena in the Stephen C. O'Connell for a 3 p.m. ET tip.
The game will be aired live on the SEC Network with Steffi Sorensen and Tiffany Greene on the call. Kyle Crooks and Brittany Davis will handle radio responsibilities on 98.1FM/850AM WRUF.
Sunday's matchup between the Gators and Bulldogs marks the 79th meeting between the teams, with Georgia holding a 61-17 series advantage. The Bulldogs have won eight-consecutive games in the series, dating back to Jan. 28, 2018. Florida's last victory over the Bulldogs came at home on Feb. 26, 2017, 65-58.

UF is 19-24 all time in SEC lid lifters and has dropped seven straight. The Gators are 12-9 in SEC openers played at home and Sunday will be the first SEC opener at home since the 2016-17 season. The Gators' last win in an SEC opener came on Jan. 2, 2013 when they posted a 82-72 win vs. Mississippi State at home.
Prior to the postponement of the Mississippi State game, originally scheduled for Dec. 30, the Gators earned their 10th win of the non-conference with a win over Murray State. The victory marked the first time that the Orange & Blue have won at least 10 games in the non-conference since the 2015-16 season. The Gators ended with 12 noncon wins during the 2015-16 campaign.

Lavender Briggs led the UF offensive effort against the Racers, recording 12 points for the home squad. Freshman Alberte connected on three-of-four from deep, helping her to 11 points while Kiara Smith tallied 10 on the afternoon. The Gators pushed the tempo against Murray State, ending with a 21-4 advantage in fast break points.
Briggs continues to close in on 1,000 career points in her Florida career. The Provo, Utah native is currently sitting at 954 points, just 46 points away from becoming the 27th member of the club. She is currently 55th in the nation in field goals made at 72.

    • Georgia hits the road to face the Florida Gators at 3 p.m. ET Sunday inside Exactech Arena. The game will be carried nationally on the SEC Network.
    • Four of the next five games are on the road for the Lady Bulldogs. Following Sunday's contest, Georgia heads to Lexington to take on Kentucky.

    • Graduate guard Que Morrison carried her team on Thursday. She scored a career-high 26 points to go with a career-best 10 assists.
    • Morrison is one of the best all-around players in the nation. She is the only player in the SEC to rank in the top-5 in assists (4.9 per game), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4), free-throw percentage (86 percent) and in the top-10 in steals (2.1 per game). Morrison also ranks 17th in the conference with her 13.7 points per game.
    • Georgia has won the last eight meetings against the Gators, with the last lost in the series coming in 2017. The Lady Bulldogs own a commanding 61-17 lead in the all-time series.
    • The Lady Bulldogs lead the SEC and rank No. 12 nationally in perimeter defense, holding teams to just 23 percent shooting from behind the arc.
    • Georgia is the most unselfish team in the SEC. The team paces the conference with 234 total assists and ranks second with 18 dimes per game. In its last three games, Georgia has 70 assists on 99 made field goals (71 percent).

    Great opportunity for the Gators!
I want to beat the UGA in all things. Badly. Forever. In this life and the next.

It is 34-33 Gators at the half. We were up by as much as 16 points early but UGA closed the half on an 11 point run.

Gators looked really good in building the lead, and then really bad for about 7 minutes to end the half. More bad passes than you can count.
Gotta take better care of the ball.

2nd quarter the worst played all year. Almost all turnovers self inflicted. Great 1st quarter.

43-39 Gators, 5 mins. left in the 3rd.
We've handled it better, but UGA looks like the more talented team.

Lav, our best player, was a non factor. You can’t turn the ball over 26 times against a top 20 team and win. But….this team is a lot better than anyone thought they would be when the season started.

Keep bringing it Ladies! You’ll get there!

To be fair, Lav is obviously still recovering from last season's injury and is doing the best she can.
