It's amazing to me how so many of you fall in line with the media, elected and non elected officials. It really amazes me that you trust the pharmaceutical companies that have no liability for these vaccines. Thousands and thousands of doctors/nurses world wide are punching back and being cancelled by the social media giants.

    From their own mouths :

That video is a series of out of context and time sound bites. Is it suppose to be some sort of gotcha? It's just bizarre.

What claim are you making by posting that BS?

Yeah, his certainty about them being completely ineffective and his misrepresentation of a single study make it hard to have rational discussion with him. Funny thing is the very study he likes to taught was a self-report study on mask usage, and in the past he has declared with the same abrupt certainty that self-reports are completely meaningless too. He ignored my comment when I pointed it out.

I put him on ignore for awhile.

Why Health Experts Recommend Retiring Cloth Masks in the Fight Against Omicron

"Cloth masks are little more than facial decorations. There's no place for them in light of omicron," CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and visiting professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, said last week.

"We need to be wearing at least a three-ply surgical mask," she also said, referring to the standard disposable face covering available at most pharmacies and general goods stores. "You can wear a cloth mask on top of that, but do not just wear a cloth mask alone."

I generally don't engage him on topics more than one or two posts. The I'm right you're an idiot schtick gets old.

Having said that, I'm hearing more and more from medical and public health experts that cloth masks are somewhere between highly ineffective to worthless when it comes to Delta and Omicron. Arguing that cloth masks may reduce risk 5% (hypothetically) on a scale of 100% is not a hill Im going to die on.

Omicron has passed peak in South Africa, causing relatively few deaths and hospitalizations, authorities say

What was posted was their own words ,not some made up BS .
much of what has been said by the 'experts' in retrospect was incorrect. There is not going to be herd immunity +(see the situation in Denmark). Vaccinated people spread the virus. The vaccines Started out with two shots, now thinking annual shots. lockdowns don't work...
Protect yourself, vaccines reduce the severity of covid if you get the disease Protect yourself, if you are worried don't go out to eat. If you are worried, wear a good mask when grocery shopping.

    Oh hogwash.

The lockdowns worked in flattening the curve.

Nobody claimed of note claimed that more shots wouldn't be needed if the virus mutated.

Much of what "the experts" (whatever.) said was accurate at the time. The virus mutated and our understanding got better. What was valid guidance at the time for L strain is not valid Delta. The messaging for Delta is not necessarily valid for Omicron.

Don't fall for manipulative propaganda. It's designed to trick the gullible.

Why do you call words from ones lips BS? They said the vaccine would stop transmission. I didn't say it. How is that BS? They said if you got the vax, you would not get sick. How is that bizarre and out of context? They said if you got the vax, you would not die. Well we know that is not true. It's not out of context. It's out of their pie holes.

I've been seeing much the same thing. However, he has been saying the same thing ever since the Danish mask study came out.

    Not suddenly with omicron.

What I meant to get at with phil is something I suspect but am not certain, which is that there is variation within cloth masks, not only with mask design, but with usage, and given the different types there are, there is likely significant variation but we don't seem to know the extent.

But yeah, not a hill to die on--heck, I just went and bought over a $100 worth of N95s for my entire family, aunts and uncles included.

Yeah you can probably find a multilayer cloth mask if it fits snugly may make a modest impact.

The whole covid life cycle has been fluid, with many unknowns, and as such the perspective can vary also. At the beginning mask mandates were perfectly reasonable given what we knew. Now 2 years in with a very virulent less harmful Omicron it is changing the rules. Half assed masks don't do much. I still support vaccine mandates but it has become murkier, when a 2 shot regimen months after the second dose is not much more prophylactic against Omicron infection than no vaccine. The need and utility of a no exceptions vaccine mandate get muddied in such circumstances.

Pretty much. If he was rolling out with something new, I'd be more patient with him. But it is the same old stuff all the time, just waits until people have moved on and then trots it out again.

This article from July has the Director of the WHO discussing variant versus vaccine race. What the edited video cuts out is this discussion and the question, what happens if COVID mutates into a more vaccine resistance form?

Mutation in a virus is going to happen. And leading health officials knew months ago that variants could be an issue. That's why the WHO labels some as a Variant Of Concern.

Still, even if Omicron is more resistant to the vaccine in terms of breakthrough cases, the vaccine still does great at keeping people out of the hospital, or worse. 16X more likely to die if infected and unvaccinated.

The problem with your argument is that you rely on absolutes, but very little with this pandemic has been absolute. It's been a moving target from day one. You appear to be setting the bar at "they were wrong at a given time," but that's a very low bar and drawing conclusions from such is fallacious. We can all find instances of public figures being wrong at one time or another.
So what's your takeaway? Are you proposing that the experts are/were all wrong and that people should not be vaccinated? Good luck defending that position. Otherwise, feel free to share the nuance in your message, but I'll be surprised if it's little more than your personal dislike of the messengers and insistence upon finding fault.

FYI RNA viruses like covid are constantly mutating. The experts knew this and there was no "if" when it came to virus mutation

That’s right. Omicron is apparently a game changer on the mask studies of prior variants.

I fall in line with the overwhelming consensus of the medical and scientific communities. If you want to run off with the demon sperm doctor and her ilk, that's your business. But don't expect the rest of us to not mock whatever crazy things you throw out based on the fringe lunatics.

This is one of the silliest arguments. Because they have no liability, they have no reason to dupe us with the vaccines widely available. If anything, engaging in fraud would be the thing that would bring liability to their doorsteps.

The vaccines did significantly reduce transmission of the early strain of the virus. The variants have proven better and better at still being transmissible in the vaccinated. Taking old clips out of context to mislead people doesn't enhance your credibility. It just makes you look dishonest.
