Jerry Lucas was one of a kind mentally. Memorized the NYC telephone book. Had a very unusual but effective long jumper before there were three pointers.
Jitoboh can be a decent player but needs to lose more weight and get in much better physical shape. That takes “want to” by the individual. I’m not talking about his effort on the court but instead his lack of effort in three seasons in Gainesville to get his body right.
I am guessing that he had one of the highest IQ’s of anyone who ever played in the NBA. Throw Bill Bradley into the high IQ group.
I don't believe that Matt was a genius, although he is very intelligent. I have a vague recollection that his SAT score was in the 1300's. However, he was, and likely remains, one of the most well-organized human beings that has played sports. No video games for Matt in college. Sports, studying and other worthwhile endeavors.
Like Bonner seem he made himself into a good player. First favorite gator was Tony Miller. Heck of a player
Weight discussions are interesting, as certain players appear to have more difficulty losing than others. Haslem played heavy at UF and then became a fitness machine with the Heat. Very thin now comparatively. Zion Williamson of the Pelicans was the number one draft choice from Duke and now he has injuries that some say are weight related.
If JJ puts his butt on the person closest to him before he watches the shot the rebound may well be signed, sealed and delivered to a Gator player.
I have no idea what his SAT score was and if I did I could not say it as that would be a FERPA violation. All I know is what has been reported in the news and that he was one B+ away from a 4.00 GPA in a real major. Econ if IIRC. Back then UF only had letter grades and letter grades if a plus except for E as there was no E+. No minus grades like now. His Coach B videos are genius comedy to me. And his reenactment of Andy Kaufmann singing the Mighty Mouse song was spot on. Jerry Lucas was an incredible player as was Bill Bradley. Bill Bradley might be the smartest NBA player ever in terms of regular IQ. Bill Russell might trump him in basketball IQ. He was way shorter than Wilt and over his career did just fine against him.
Sports Betting Tips, News, and Analysis Top 10 SAT Scores of Athletes in Pro-Sports July 23, 2013 Note the .eu domain name. Information might be correct, but source credibility is something to consider. BTW I can access every UF student and applicant's SAT score, but only because I'm an administrator with access to student records--few staff and faculty have that kind of access. For unknown (at least to me) reasons SAT and ACT scores have gone up significantly in the last 15-20 years.
I said early in this thread that I hoped JJ would get 12 to 15 minutes vs. Stony Brook. He got 14, with 12 points and 7 rebounds, so that was a big day for him. I suspect he'll get 4 first half minutes vs. Alabama and the staff will see how it goes before extending it. But I'm encouraged by his progress; he's way ahead of last season. For the record, I was in Texas during the Stony Brook game and unable to watch, so I don't know how well he did overall... the defense, the spacing, the movement... That said, CC is still our best player at this point.
This may get me bacon (bacon is good), but from what I see, Jit is still way to big, way too slow, gets out jumped, and unless it's a rebound put back, he is rarely an offensive threat. Against top teams imo he is a liability. There is a reason he gets low minutes. Now that we are into the SEC games, you watch and see how very little he does.
Last night, he did some good things on offense in the first half. In the 2nd half, his defense was terrible, but most of it was being out of place, not being too slow. As he got tired, he also resorted to his habit of reaching and fouling. Baby steps. He's getting better, just not there yet.
There actually currently are and in the past have been quite a few fat big men who were really good college players. Da Meathook and Udonis were not slim Jims.
