Florida reported that for 2 days worth. New York reported 28k two days ago and 20k yesterday.

New York is just starting their upward trend and their winter wave. Good job comparing our peak summer wave to NYs starting winter wave...

Every state is about to beat any prior records due to Omicron. The fact the vaccines are useless in preventing infection from this variant and its as contagious as measles... it's going to skyrocket. The good news is it is a weaker variant than delta.

It could very well be that those in NY (or anywhere else for that matter) who've caught covid are more likely to be people who are less likely to take precautions to protect themselves. Top level numbers cannot tell us this, however, and neither can they provide the true number of people who have not gotten covid because they took/continue to take the necessary precautions.

I think we will see much lower hospitalizations but a very high case rate.

I don't care to make any predictions, but FLORIDA has been in the top 5 for lowest new hospitalizations per capita for about a month now. Things have been slightly trickling upwards.

Good catch, I haven't been swimming in the numbers for a while and forgot that our state has chosen to report numbers in a less than useful way.

Last Monday we reported 3,865 daily new cases. You aren't a little worried that we went from that to 18k new cases in the course of seven days? You see New York starting an upward trend, but not us?

I did compare our summer peak to theirs, theirs just happened to be a tenth of ours.

Lol I know I am one of those. Got covid Sept last year. Fortunately, myself and all my family that got it during that time had mild cases.

I think cases are going to skyrocket no matter what but a big part of that is people taking fewer precautions and a new highly contagious variant that escapes the vaccines.

Worried, not really since we know what is coming. Omicron is going to spread like wildfire but more and more proof it peaks and declines faster than delta.

Florida's case numbers are about to skyrocket similar to NY. Florida is just a week or so behind NY. FL will likely have worse overall outcomes than NY does because NY has a higher percentage vaccinated.

Some of NYs highest vaccinated counties are having the highest rate of infection at the moment.

Plus plenty of reports out now that state vaccines offer almost zero protection against infection with Omicron. Right now the hope is boosters offer some but it wouldn't make sense being Omicron spike protein had a lot of mutation compared to what the vaccines teach our bodies.

Infections will be high everywhere. Vaccines will protect against hospitalizations and deaths. Higher vaccinated areas will have better outcomes.

I have family in one of those counties in NY you mentioned. All have allegedly gotten covid recently (not sure if we believe they did...that's a story for another day). All unvaxxed and don't wear masks or social distance unless they have to. There thing is god will protect them.

Just heard that omicron is the dominant strain in the US. Battling the pandemic spread of an infectious disease is extremely hard. We are the vehicles for the spread and the virus exploits the way we already organize and interact with one another.

For the most part I agree with this. Hard to tell currently if vaccines will actually help against Omicron or is Omicron just that much weaker. South Africa is very low on the vaccine front yet they had no problem with their Omicron wave.

Hopefully everyone turned out ok. I have a group of friends dealing with Covid right now. Some are vaxxed and some are not. They all went and got Regeneron right away. At the moment all seem to be getting better each day.

It was always going to be impossible to stop this thing. The best thing we could have done was protect those who it kills the most. Anyone in that group that decided not to get the vaccine once it became available, they have only themselves to blame. I know of one person that should have and he is now gone.

This is why it's foolish for people not to be vaccinated. If nearly 100% of the country was vaccinated, covid might be much more like flu.

    Buffalo NY
I had said I'd stay away from this thread but being in NY...we're in full mask mandates & schools here (Buffalo) have told kids to empty their lockers (for those that were allowed to use them) & take all electronics home in the event they decide to close schools. It's allegedly a very good chance.. They were out of school from March 2020 until this September. The governor has said these are mandates but since emergency powers for Cuomo expired a month or so prior to his resignation, enforcement is iffy.

There are a lot of very angry people here. You have one end ignoring mandates, & the other having people arrested for not wearing masks - charged under trespassing.

Our capacity is up but, again, we had a decent number of folks fired over the vaccine mandates, the usual end-of-year run of elderly getting procedures before heading to Florida, & the folks getting procedures prior to January 1st where their deductibles reset. Every year is cyclical.

Our office has 1 doctor and 1 nurse practitioner out w/Covid. Both in excellent health, both vaccinated & boostered, and both had Covid previously (1 prevaccine, 1 after both Pfizer shots). The prevaccine one said this was much lighter & felt like a cold versus previously. Both bouts for the Dr were very mild.

I know we're outliers because other than Buffalo proper most folks are middle of the road, but I know 6 families personally that are moving away because things were bad before covid--this had just been the icing on the cake.

Anyway thought I'd share a NY point of view. Fingers crossed they don't close. That was the worst part for my son - not seeing his friends, football curtailed, etc. Definitely hard mentally for him.

Despite Being Vaccinated, NEW YORK Hits Highest Daily Covid Infection Ever – MI, MN, VT, and MD Also See Surging Numbers
Joe Biden’s speech tomorrow regarding the Covid “crisis”, would have historical precedent if the Captain of the sinking Titanic had given a speech to passengers and crew just before it broke apart and sank. No matter what Demented Joe has to say, the new tsunami of Covid is showing that the vaccines do not work.

Yes, we hear the mindless idiots who have taken multiple vaccines and boosters insist the shots saved them even after contracting Covid again. The list of vaccinated who are now testing positive with Covid is growing by the hour:

New York is not alone. Add to this list Michigan, Minnesota, Maryland, and Vermont. Pennsylvania and Massachusetts are on track to do the same. It would be one thing if these states were filled with anti-vaxers. They are not. Just the opposite. Heavy vaccinations, mask mandates and shutdowns. Yet, these stringent measures have not prevented the re-emergence of Covid.

The captain of the ill-fated Titanic could not pretend there was no iceberg. The passengers thrashing frantically in the frosty waters knew the truth. The same now applies to Covid. The Biden plan is kaput. His mantra of more vaccines is being exposed as a fraud. You were promised if you got the jab the scary Covid would go away. Turns out that is not true. Grab a lifeboat kids.
