I'll wait to see the cause of death of this person before definitively saying he died of covid or died "with" covid. Very important determination when considering omicron.

 

Maybe, but it's still far better to be vaccinated than not.

 

I posted this above, I am not going to get into a pissing match here on the politics of it, I just honestly hope people take data like this seriously. That is the only reason I am bothering.

The new patriotism.

We went from “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” to “I don’t care about society, and society doesn’t care about me”.

I think his statement pretty well represents conservative values these days. Yet these people wrap themselves in the flag and (many) fancy themselves as followers of Christ’s teachings. Makes no sense at all, they don’t even realize they are tossing that all aside.

 

I got mine at the same time. A little off the next day but minimal. The flu shot arm was more sore than the booster arm.

I've always been active but marrying a younger lady later in life put me is a spot where I had kids later in life. Certainly keeps me motivated to continue to eat healthy and stay very active. At 58, I can still ride, hike, swim...... with my 17 and 20 year old boys. I cannot run or get in the ring with them, they are substantially faster than I am running and I am pretty sure both could beat my ass.

 

I am around several that have to get the flu shot every year due to being in medicine. We are all in agreement the COVID jab is a much tougher shot than the flu vaccine, with symptoms much more common. I’ve been told the shingles vaccine can be pretty rough too.

I got a pretty good fever and slight headache on the 2nd dose Moderna. Just got my booster last week (good timing hopefully!), same deal again even with it being only 50% of the dose. Both times it was probably about 12 hours of feeling slightly “off”. Although to me it tells me the body is doing its job generating the desired immune response, if it did NOTHING I’d actually worry about that slightly.

 

I got my shingles shots two years ago. Pain in the arm was far more than flu or covid. But that's it.

The second Pfizer shot knocked me out for several days. Mainly extremely tired. Slept more than 12hrs a day for several days, which was fine. Otherwise, nothing much else to report.

 

Yes, really. Those are the numbers for 18-49. Covid vaccines have higher efficacy than flu vaccines, on average. Also, the notion that an order of magnitude greater risk is "slightly" higher is a bit of a stretch.

 

Was told yesterday we can't get Regeneron anymore so my shift tomorrow was canceled. Got a message this morning that we are now administering a different combination of antibodies intravenously as opposed to IM injection.

Not at all. I am suggesting that no matter what anyone does, the virus is going to spread. I have been saying for months the north is going to get a nasty winter wave.

 

In both cases I got the sore arm the following day, then the “fuzzy feeling” for about a 12 hours stretch. 2nd dose I actually hit a 103 fever, which was weird because I didn’t feel that bad. Just a bit fuzzy. I didn’t even bother taking my temp after the booster, but it all felt similar to the 2nd shot. Basically 12 hours of feeling spent.

With the flu shots we’ve never even had those minor symptoms. Just the sore arm, sometimes not even that.

I am excited to get back into tennis. My wife and I have our second lesson tomorrow afternoon. She was the one who got me started in the running. Then she retired within a year because of her toe. She went to weights and spinning. Now she got into tennis which has made me so happy to see her enjoyment. And even better will be potentially getting to do that with her (we are already planning to compete in some mixed doubles stuff/she is being recruited by all the team leaders at the courts). While I am 30 years removed...I did play a good amount for about 2 years when I was younger so I am hopeful it is like riding a bike. Was surprised how addictive it was after one hour. The few shots I hit that were pure were like a golf shot that is pure. Makes you want to do it again...

 

Tennis is huge here in ATL.
I like playing, it is very social here with teams playing year round and always involve drinking. While I love playing, it is much harder on my lower body than trail running. Less forgiving shoes, much harder surface. Clay is easier on me, but not many clay courts around us.
Careful playing doubles with your wife, sometimes it ends well, sometimes it ends poorly.

 

I don't ever remember having anything but a minor sore arm with the flu shot. That is a bit weird about the 103. I used the tiredness to catch up on some sleep

 

I'd say it's that despite measures taken, it is going to spread, which isn't to say that various responses have no effect.

The much harder thing to measure is how many people haven't gotten covid, hospitalized, or died bc various strategies to fight it?

Or another way to consider it, what proportion of the cases are because people defy such strategies?

 

Well New York is breaking records at the moment all with mask and vax mandates. They have had vax passports.

What we do know is Florida had virtually no government intervention other than encouraging people to get vaccinated and if they get sick, encourage them to get the monoclonal antibody treatments early once it became much more available.

Some of NYs highest vaccinated counties are having the highest cases per 100k right now.

Tennis is pretty big here as well. Nice thing is we do have access to clay courts. We play at Ft King and between Golden Ocala, Ocala Country Club, Gainesville…there are some great matches my wife has been able to enjoy. Right now she is playing a level too low. But she had never played outside of a couple classes at UF. But she is extremely athletic. So she is dominating her level. It was almost boring until they put her on court 1. She had a great last match against the Country Club. Won a third set tiebreak.

 

Florida reported 18,404 new cases yesterday. New York reported 20,439.

Over the last six months, New York's daily high was 28,260 (two days ago). Florida had a rolling 7 day average higher than that in the last six months (8/16). Florida's daily high was 56,610. We have had 11 days higher than New York's daily high. July to September when our average never dropped below 10,000 new daily cases, their average daily new cases peaked at 5,444.

I'm not sure that this comparison is as favorable towards Florida as you seem to think it is.

 

The virus is going to spread now due to the high rate of infection this variant has and they we are wide open. We will all be exposed. The question is to what level of viral load and how trained your immune system is upon exposure.
