Fortunately, while Bammer will no doubt work this angle hard, it's just not viable in the present as it was for The Bear.

Constant TV exposure for all schools, social media connectivity, and the instant transfer rule will significantly blunt any attempt to stockpile kids.

Didn’t Napier say something similar for us?

I didn’t see that but if he said it, I’m ok with it. For us anyway. Not them.

They maybe won’t stockpile but over sign by using pwo. They can then have a larger pool to weed out and send the leftovers back to the portal.

Good article from when he first arrived at ULL.
Inspired by dad and Saban, Napier begins at Louisiana

Napier arrived to the meeting with his quarterbacks after watching more than 40 walk-on players exhaustingly trudge through conditioning tests. The best of them will make the 110 who participate in camp, the next best will make the 130 for in-season practice and the others will be cut. Billy, an assistant at his hip, watches intently while scribbling notes.

One of Napier’s first tasks at Louisiana is to create a thriving walk-on program. More bodies will afford him the chance to practice like Saban does, using what he calls “two-spotting,” splitting the team into four squads (first- through third-strings, plus rookies) and holding two scrimmages simultaneously on adjacent fields. Two-spotting is as important to the Alabama Way as the ever-growing support staff. “We are a rep-based organization. Instead of just 22 guys getting reps and others standing on the sideline, 44 guys are getting reps,” Hocke says. “It’s not just the effect of one practice or one week. It’s the cumulative effect of a year or three to five years.”

But that is only going to be effective to a point. It's not like the 60s where recruits had little idea who else the schools were recruiting until after signing day. Kids already look for their best option for PT. Not many really good kids are going to be content to be the 3rd QB or the 4th safety in a class of 33 kids (effectively speaking).

There is no doubt teams will exploit this to their advantage, but it's more likely to be a cluster of teams, UF included, as opposed to one program in a region reaping all the benefits.

Good info - Napier has requested 50 walk on spots at UF.

Saban is doing the equivalent of what the Bear did in the 60s.

Lloyd Summerall is staying at UF? Saw a blurb from Mark Wheeler indicating as much.

I’m not sure why a kid would follow their dad to their alma mater in such a high profile position. The expectations are unreasonable.

Article says he’s getting 2nd round draft grades from scouts… might be a situation where he follows CBN to the SEC to prove himself against the best, and get those extra millions and guarantees that come with being a 1st rounder.

Nah. In the 60s you had a two deep of Bama players that should have been starting at other southern schools, but basically sat on the pine for a career at Bama.

Until Saban retires, Bama is going to be the top dog. Even with that, UGA, OSU and TxAM are recruiting at nearly the same pace. LSU is not far behind and it looks like UF, USC, and UTx might be getting their acts together.

Saban has used every advantage available and coached up his talent expertly. However he also benefitted from USC, UF, UTx, FSU, and Miami going dormant. LSU and UGA couldn't find a coach to equal their recruiting, with TxAM in basically the same boat. Couple that with Saban not having another decade of coaching ahead of him, and I think the playing field is slowly tipping to more level. NIL is going to benefit many schools smart enough to use it well.

Always good to impress potential future employers when you meet them on business trips. That same logic would also explain why he didn't get a new job here.

Do we yet know if MD is transferring? Leading tackler I would hope the staff tries to keep.

I’m sure Saban can field a competitive G5 team with his walk-ons.
