Anyone surprised by these 4 pre-season draft prospects? Did they forget anyone? Nation-Leading Four Gators Tabbed Top-100 MLB Draft Prospects - Florida Gators
Can't help but wonder which frosh will step up. This latest class is loaded with promise. Now, how much of that promise can be cashed in to stardom?
Stardom? I'd be happy if we could just field a bunt most of the time and occasionally throw a guy out stealing second.
Barco can beat that ranking and so can Sproat. My money is on both of those occurring. If they both do what their bodies are capable of, both will make some serious cash. I didn’t know Thompson was draft eligible. That sucks. I like his game a lot. He makes me VERY nervous on every fly ball but the kid can play. Fabian is the one that I shake my head at. He has so much raw talent. He has power. He has speed. He can defend. But the strikeouts at this level are WAY TOO high. Professional pitching will eat that up. He made a few mental (they were physical in nature but it looked like his concentration just lapsed) errors in the outfield which a guy with his ability just can’t make. And his speed doesn’t show up in the stolen base category. Not sure if he lacks a great lead, or first movement read or what. If he puts it all together, he could be really special. So part of me says 45 is way too low as he could be the most talented Gator in Sully’s tenure. The other part of me says he is still being judged on what he can be and not what he is and 45 is too high as his production doesn’t come close to the more well rounded Zunino, India, etc. Everything I have heard about him, it sounds like he is a good kid and he takes his struggles very personally. I hope for his sake that he learned a bit last year and gained some mental fortitude. It would serve him well in life in general. Take life a day at a time and remember, it is a game. Have fun. If he does that, maybe the pieces fall into place.
There are certain fundamentals which seem to have disappeared since Weitzel left. Of course Weitzel’s last year was the abysmal 2019 campaign so what does that mean? I don’t know. On the bright side, base running mistakes have existed in large volume for all 14 years of Sully’s tenure. So we can always count on a little frustrating “What the … was that?!?!” I can’t help but think if @74nole was the coach, that fielding fungo bat would have broken a few dozen times by now with all of the practice it would have received!!!
Kinda thought Barco was more highly regarded than this but as 74nole said it don’t mean much right now.
He is, remember these are put together by journalist who have a skeleton staff now. Very little input from scouts or GM’s on this list. Doubt he makes it out of the teens if he has a good year.
Nesbitt and Pogue were poised for some big things last year. I think both will solidify our staff this year. At catcher I feel really good with Guscette, Riopelle, and Lastres. Mac is the guy but Riopelle will get innings and possibly DH some.
Are Nesbitt and Pogue back for sure? I don't think either threw in a scrimmage in the fall. That would be a huge plus if both those guys return.
Maybe I’m being overly optimistic but big surprise if they don’t contribute in a big way. Time table wise they should be good but Sully won’t rush. Maybe not ready or out there early but by week 3-4 he’ll be working them in.
Yes. I think Barco will go first round- perhaps late-- I'd put him ahead of Jud- who despite the power is not a complete hitter and we all know the K problems. I expect Thompson to have a breakout year and possibly go higher- I see him as the best hitter on the team- with a swing that reminds me of John Olerud who had pretty solid 16-year MLB career. Glad to see Sproat projected that high and hope he can deliver as the Saturday guy. Rivera might crack the top 100 if he lives up to his potential. Expecting a solid year from Halter as well. (Do we know when practices/scrimmages begin again?)
Usually John or Gatorgal will chime in with details some time after mid January when the coaches start putting a schedule out.
