So you think players get lap dances and/or get drunk get thrown out of the league? Again, where is the confirmation that he called players and coaches losers other than some anonymous source in a news report? And the NFL is littered with moron players who have done far worse. If Antonio Brown can stay in the league then everyone else has plenty of room for mistakes as well.

I don't want to spend all day arguing with my fellow Gator fans but my goodness some of y'all are ate up with Jacksonville. It borders on y'all being personally offended by the city and/or franchise. It's sad.

I don’t think there are many Meyer fans that want him back. There are many that want to give him props for the championships he brought.

As far as the arrests, I think it was more of a culture thing. Guys that were performing got away with too much.

The HC sets the culture and "getting away with too much" just makes my point. I remember Gator fans comparing the Gainesville PD with the Gestapo just because they stood in the way of letting the miscreants play on Saturday. Turns out some of those players really were thugs. All of that rests squarely in Urban Meyer's lap.
More than a few Gator fans would take him back in a nanosecond if it meant winning right away and to hell with the costs.

Once a leader loses trust, it's hard if not impossible to get it back. As much as anything UM's character flaws torpedoed his career.

I know you after 11 years on this board. You just like to argue Tommy. You know very well that those arrests were legit. Funny how 'Bama never has those kinds of problems. Oh yeah, Saban has the PD on his payroll. The answer lies in the characters of those coaches. Saban will toss your butt right quick if you soil the program. Meyer? Not so much.

CBN talked in his presser yesterday about the need to have a lot of analysts and assistants so they can have normal workloads and spend time with their wives and kids. That is a recipe for long term success. Meyer just likes to run red hot and burn himself and everyone around him out. It isn't sustainable, as we have seen.

I agree with you. I just don’t agree that they were thugs outside of a certain tight end.

Yeah, I probably overstated the thug thing. Still, I think we can win with a clean program.

Ehh.. college kids smoking weed is probably about as surprising as the sun rising in the east. And tons of Floridians right now have medical marijuana cards, and even if they don't have the card, they still smoke. Many states have decriminalized weed.

I don't think weed was the issue with what happened to Meyer at UF.

I think Meyer has worms in his head, that ultimately derail him.

I was hoping Meyer would succeed. The Jags sure needed it. But he inherited a huge mess. No talent. No speed. No OL. No QB. The front office has been the team's own worst enemy and I have not been a fan of Khan for a while now after I have had the opportunity to see how this organization is run. I think he is a terrible owner. The best thing that could happen to the Jags is for Khan to sell the team. As for UM, he has never been a great crisis manager. Every NFL team has a "crisis". UM's response to a crises--even if fabricated or exaggerated by the media--was to do exactly the opposite of what he probably should have done. He denies and therefore lies, then he blames. In the process he digs the hole a little deeper. Then he makes his exit when it gets overwhelming. In this instance , instead of him leaving, he was told to leave. And Khan is incredibly PC. The media would absolutely affect his decision. He just said a couple of days ago he would not rush into anything and would be patient. BS.
I think it is time for Urban to hang up the cleats. He needs to clean up some things at home. He needs to focus on his family before another crises, or a variation of one that may already exist, surfaces. This could be a blessing in disguise. I hope he has the wisdom to look for or see that.

Do you follow the NFL? Players who are labeled "toxic" and "locker room headaches" are thrown out of the league all the time, and that goes across all sports, not just the NFL. Antonio Brown is a Hall of Fame receiver, which is the only reason why he keeps finding work. If Urban Meyer was a Hall of Fame of coach I'm sure the Jags wouldve given him a much longer leash. But when you suck at your job and are toxic in your own locker room, see ya, time to go.

always was ticked off the way he departed.
But honestly, i was ticked off also the way Spurrier departed. He left us high and dry with no plan in place.

Someone broke down the arrests once.
Many were due to very minor stuff- throwing a sandwich, getting off on the same bus stop as an ex-gf, and getting a car back from an impound lot.
There were some serious ones- but those were all dealt with usually with getting kicked off the team.

Interesting that UGA under Richt had about as many arrests as we did.
And then just a few years later FSU players were doing all sorts of crap and NOT getting arrested...
Which is probably pretty normal in most college towns.

Look- Meyer has issues, but as I said in another thread. The media has been out to get the guy since we went off on a reporter Spring 09.

NOW- the way he left the locker room was IMO unforgivable. He should have gifted back to UF at least half his salary the last year.
But the number of arrests thing is far overblown.

Did you read those articles? They were about more than the 31 arrests. Example - Letting Harvin get away with not running stadium steps and then attacking Billy Gonzalez without consequences. This led to Gonzalez quitting his job and going elsewhere. And other things he did that players have since talked about that showed he was willing to tolerate any behavior from starters as long as they were winning, then using lesser players as examples of how tough he was on discipline. Total hypocrite, with no ethical or moral base. Muschamp was left with a mess to clean up, many players couldn't take the new "right" way of doing things and left. Will did a commendable job of cleaning up the locker room - just couldn't recruit or coach well enough to keep his job.

We’ve read it. We know the culture was bad. That’s why Meyer has a limited shelf life. He was a hired gun and did his job. We didn’t have to vacate any wins or anything. The issue really is that Meyer probably doesn’t have the politicking skills to keep UPD and GPD off his behind. This doesn’t happen in Tallahassee or Tuscaloosa. They keep that stuff under wraps.

The Knute Rockne shtick doesn't work with NFL players. Urban's all about Urban people see through that. He went for the $$$ and now his reputation takes a hit.
