I see my point sailed right over your head. I'm guessing you don't remember the Spurrier years.
Let me explain again using more words. I forget how many youngsters or people with bad memories we have on here.

The point is that RUTS in a ridiculous and exaggerated way has been the norm in girls/ women's b-ball for many years. (Girls= HS, womens= college.)
It's actually normal in men's ball as well, though not as pronounced.

And no one bats an eye. No one gets on their high horse and shouts about how wrong it is.
Or its very rare for anyone to say anything. Its been this way for decades.

But when Spurrier let Eric Kresser (our 2nd string QB) throw a late TD to Travis McGriff (our 6th string WR that year) vs UGA in 1995 then all hell erupted.
Or when Spurrier let Capel (who was way down in the depth chart) run in for a late TD in the 1998 UGA game, it was a huge controversy.
Spurrier was called out by SI (in 95) and by the networks, and so many others.

So my point is that isn't it interesting how variable the media's moral outrage can be?
In basketball- mostly OK to RUTS to a ridiculous amount.
Spurrier scores late TDs vs main rival- he's the devil himself.

But to say it again- I think a lopsided score like this, in any sport, is absurd, sad, and ridiculous.

It wasn't RUTS that actually pissed off the media. It was that it was Spurrier doing it. He rubbed a lot of media types the wrong way.

I bet Bobby Bowden was never called out for RUTSing.

Old-school types of the SEC thought football meant running the ball, and they hated that Spurrier revolutionized college football into a wide-open game. And he was fully justified in putting in the backup QBs and letting them throw the ball to the last second. That's how you get the kid experience.

I fall in this category. I played a few ex-pros in racquetball when I was 17. As you might suspect, they beat me. A lot. I never took a single game. I did get to 10 or 11 points on one guy one time. Typically the scores were 15-5, 15-3.

I would rather play them and them play their best than them pity me. Now that doesn’t mean I want them hitting shots between their legs to rub it in but I don’t want them giving up on balls because they feel bad I only scored 3 points.

When you show up on a field where the score is kept and the goal is to win (not a scrimmage where the goal is improvement), both teams should play their best and the score is the score. But don’t shoot half court shots and alley oops all game just because you can.
