Thought this deserved its own thread. Shout-out to the ladies for a great week. Beating Dayton (favorites to win their conference) and breaking the 5 game skid to FSU. Really hope we carry this momentum into SEC play.
A well deserved Honor for Gators WBK they played lights out to get the win, shout out to the fans who gave the team the biggest crowd so far this season hope it is the start of giving WBK the support they deserve
SEC WBK is brutal but this team is good and has a chance to be very good. Fun to watch. The Ladies are Fearless!
They have turned it around after a couple of disappointing losses. The question will be SEC play. We need to be winning about half our conference games if we are going to make that step up. We had a decent record last year til conference play... but these last two wins are quality wins that bode well for that possibility.
Does this coach get the job next year or do they bring in someone. What would it take for her to get the job? 500 in SEC?
Tough to say. Personally I think you bring in someone else with experience, especially if you have interest from some big names. She is coaching, but technically she isn't the one who built to this so it's a little too much unknown for me. Our class for next year doesn't look too thrilling at the moment, but given the situation it's understandable. Now if she gets 20+ wins and a gets us an NCAA game win or two you probably start thinking about it... do you go for continuity or for a proven hire?
Makes good since. Don't know anything about her, or who would come here. Is this job considered a good one?
That depends on if the AD is finally willing to pay. South Carolina was bad before they hired Dawn and invested in the program. I have little faith in our AD, but have heard we may be willing to finally pay more. I will say this, whether it is Kelly or not, I am fairly certain the hire will be female which takes some candidates off the list. Scott hired Cam to replace Butler and a male coach to replace Becky... there's going to be a lot of pressure to hire a female this time.
Where does Julie Plank fit in? Is she happy mentoring Kelly? Perhaps Kelly’s youthful enthusiasm matched with Plank’s decades of experience at all levels is actually working?
I think Plank may have been a contingency plan. She would have been able to step in if things with the abuse allegations escalated. She could very well get consideration. I am very curious as to when a decision is made. Our class for this last signing day had 2 players, solid ones but not elite and we lose Kiki and possibly a couple more. We have 0 commitments for 2023. I don't think we want to wait til March or April to make a change and risk having back to back sub par recruiting years. Kelly and Plank may both be candidates, and you have to see if Hammon is interested now. Maybe see if Chris Daily would leave UConn finally. Delisha should get a hard look as well.
I've caught the Gators on TV off and on this year. There's been a lot of progress in the team's play since the start. Have to consider that.
