I think with this recruiting class that is coming in, and what should be coming back, we will emerge as a contender for the SEC title. we need another big to replace Castleton although Jitoboh has come a long way. I think another year under his belt and he can be a double double player. Humphrey can service the point and hopefully Reeves will develop. this current team misses too many too many easy layups and it backs, and has gotten accustomed to playing from behind.
Jones from 3, first 6 games: 15/36 (.417) - worst = 1 for 3 night Jones from 3, last 4 games: 3/20 (.150) - best = 1 for 5 night Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
I agree 100%. I just hate that it will set the program back so far before a move is made. Nobody on here can say anything bad about White’s character, he’s a class act. He just isn’t a good basketball coach and some refuse to accept that because it would be admitting that they were wrong about him. I hoped every season that he would grow into a good coach but it isn’t gonna happen. I see almost the same issues every season he’s been here. How long will it go on?
They committed TWO team fouls the entire first half. We had an advantage in the second but a slew of fouls against us completely erased our team foul advantage. We were in the bonus with about 12 minutes left in the second half and couldn’t take advantage. Jitoboh had almost as many points as Castleton with 1/3 the minutes. And Appleby dwarfed Jones in points but was relegated to the bench while Jones could NOT find his shot (4th game in a row).
It's getting to be routine in recent years to expect Gators sports programs to sputter in key moments- especially since Stricklin came on board. He only fired Mullen under pressure from boosters; seemingly ignored the egregious abusive culture in the women's basketball program; has allowed Mike White to continue as HC despite all evidence that he is not an elite coach. Gators gymnastics have slowly slipped down in rankings. We have no recent trips to College WS in baseball or softball; early exits in post-season Volleyball; a non show from our Women's soccer. Men's Tennis - a standout (NCAA Champs), as are Lacrosse, and of course as always under coach Galloway- Track and Field outstanding -- and Golf has its moments. I expect we all know the hierarchy in college sports and when your football and men's basketball team are average or below, it can ramify through all programs. The spotlight should
our brand unfortunately is not going to get the calls because when you lose to a Texas Southern type team as we do EVERY YEAR, refs start to have disdain for our program. This is becoming painfully obvious. Only to good teams and overachieving teams get the calls. MW’s teams have in and year out underachieved. No is going to help an underachiever.
I agree with your reply, but when the Terps got ahead in the first half, both Appleby and Fleming had bad calls against them. This was shortly after Manning was lobbying the officials. Even the announcers said they were bad calls. CMW just stood and stared at the court with calm little beady dark eyes. This is where you earn your money, engage the officials and let them know they can do better.
This. If you watch this game and think we played man all night, you boycott your right to have this conversation. You may as well have said White should have gone for it on 4th down in the 5th inning while on a power play
we are getting posted play after play after play. That is why Castleton and Duruji were I. Foul trouble. They had to cover for our acute deficiencies in height and bulk in the SF, SG, and PG positions. Our power forwards are only 6’7”. nextbyear MW is bringing in more physically skilled big men. If he can develop Jitoboh (I think he’s done an excellent job with him I. 3 years), we will have the foundation to win these close games more frequently. I love Felder and Duruji’s efforts but by the 5 minute mark of the second half they and the rest of the team are worn down because they are playing out of position on defense.
Disagree. We didn’t play 1-3-1 on any possessions I remember. It was essentially man to man but on most possessions we switched every screen. We also started straight denial on their PG with about 7 minutes left, but the other four guys were in man. It may look like a match up zone, but it’s man. There was no traditional zone played that I can recall.
Yes-- sorry Coach Holloway -you're the best coach on campus- and you coach both men and women's team. I'm on the fly here to get home. Thanks for correction Tampa Jack.
Hopefully, he makes some lineup changes, because tonight we aren’t getting much production out of a couple of them. Maybe even ask a coach friend anywhere why our offense can’t get guys open. But him going anywhere, that isn’t going to happen due to being a macho football school. I just wish he had more of an out going demeanor. Just apologizing all the time, well, ya’ll know....
This team is destined for a .500 SEC record, squarely on the bubble. This was a very bad week. I’m not sure mediocrity will be good enough. He has enough ability where his teams don’t fully implode, which is fine for most programs. I’ve been a fan since the early 90s. I think it’s fair to expect success every 5 years or so, with success being an SEC title and/or deep run in the NCAA tournament. I don’t think he has the skills to put a roster together and coach that roster effectively enough to get to that level of success. His teams aren’t efficient, and too many players regress each year. It’s that simple.
