— If he doesn’t win in year 17, this Hoyt guy would still defend him. He’s an odd character. He almost enjoys losing so he can complain about posters complaining. That’s about the only time he posts lol.
And then a quick exit in the 2nd game when we play a powerhouse like Oral Roberts that we are favored to beat.
I didn’t think the defense was horrible. The intensity was there. A couple of breakdowns. That last +1 should have been a moving screen on their big taking out Appleby to clear the driving lane. The issue, as always, is offense. They had 4 starters with double digits including their 2 starting guards with 19 apiece. We had only 1 starter hit double digits, and he was sort of inefficient 3-12 to get that 15. McKissic and Jones put up 2 and 3 points respectively. You could have the most elite defense on the planet, you aren’t winning many if your starting backcourt combines for 5 points. I’m not even sure how we stayed in this game. We probably don’t without Appleby flipping a switch and hitting 5 three’s in the 2nd half.
While I agree whole heartedly I have to admit it's been easier to not let sports make or break my days because of the mediocrity of both our basketball and football programs. I don't care for trash talk anymore and just SMH at trolls who come to swamp gas to trash gator fans because it's a pretty sad indictment of the type of person that does that. I genuinely just enjoy seeing my teams do well. With all that said, it's human nature to expect outcomes based on trends. When spurrier teams lost a game it hurt. In part because my priorities were different as a younger person but also because it was rare and a loss was often from a bad bounce of the ball, bad call or just a bad day at the office. Same with basketball under Donovan. Now losses are common if not expected and the execution is just routinely bad and not entertaining. I don't have a pitchfork but I'm also ready to see a program show a definitive improvement. As it is now I am ok just checking in here and there to see how the games went because I'm not rearranging my day to watch a frustrating predictable outcome over and over.
My only comment… Until we get Castleton completely involved and understand that when we establish the inside game it opens everything else up we will continue to lose games.
Let me guess. You don't like CMW? Perhaps you think we should fire him and hire another coach? I mean it's hard to tell since you only posted a million times about how we should fire him.
I only watched 20 some percent of the game. It was sort of an afterthought to even catch that much. I used to not miss a game for hell or high water but with White, I have gotten to where I almost expect a loss so I don’t even care if I watch or not.
Agree. I'm 70 now with health issues, and Gator sports, which I still enjoy, is way down there on my list of priorities. At the top is my wife, 4 children and 6 grandchildren and spending as much time as I can with them.
Since you're in Gainesville, can you please try to get that suggestion to the coaching staff? The only way we're going to be successful is to try to work the ball inside.
Great game. Team competed down to the wire. Maryland just made all of the big shots. Allenby has to start over Jones. Jones is in a horrendous slump now extending over 4 games. McKissic is bringing a lot of energy, but I believe Felder is a better option. The starting five should be Castleton, Felder, Duruji, Fleming, and Appleby. They right now are playing the most consistent basketball for the program.
I don’t like White as a coach for the Gators. The program will continue to regress back to the days pre-Donovan if he continues to coach for many more years. That’s my opinion. You may not agree and that’s fine.
Getting tired of the broken record doesn't equate to fellating. That's a weird thing to say. I'm not even arguing for or against MW's coaching - just against the repetitive posting.
Manning was lobbying the refs early in the first half, Gator fan #1, CMW, just watched as bad call on bad call happened. On the road you have to engage the refs early and often. He is too worried about how he looks as a nice good professional coach, that is why we go on the road, it is almost certainly a lost. On offense it is small ball, chucking threes, jones couldn’t hit the side of the arena or even guard anybody, why is he starting. I said we need more bigs for depth, Maryland had about six bigs, we had two. We need someone who knows offense on the coaching staff, we don’t have it and are satisfied with this swarm of bees on defense and by chance someone hits a shot on offense. Maryland is not very good, this does not bode well for the SEC grind which we will see better teams. A lot of people on here don’t like Bruce Pearl, but he coaches circles around our coach. I know he has been caught cheating off the court, but when you play his teams, he is a master at keeping control of what happens on court. This is where they throw up the ball! I don’t know of any coach in the SEC that is as quiet and mild mannered as CMW. As for getting offense from his guys on the road, well, wait till the team plays at home, sometimes there, we hit enough shots. Small ball is a trick pony offense as we run it. More black eyes and bruises as we get abused and our coach is looking at statistics. Bummed!
His “likeability” rating is off the charts, which is why he is still the head coach. At some point he won’t be able to overcome his inability to coach offense, the regression of key players every year, and the lack of winning the SEC, SEC tournament, or making a final four.
