Sunday will mark the 78th meeting Gators and Seminoles.
    Florida vs. Florida State
    Game Information:
    Dec. 12 | 1 p.m. ET
    Live Stream: SEC Network
    Radio: 98.1FM/850AM WRUF
    Live Stats: SIDEARM
Game Notes: Florida | Florida State

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women's basketball will meet in-state rival, Florida State, for the 78th time in series history on Sunday when the Seminoles visit Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center for a 1 p.m. ET tip.

The rivalry will be aired live on the SEC Network with Tiffany Greene and Steffi Sorensen on the call while Kyle Crooks and Brittany Davis will handle radio responsibilities for Florida on 98.1FM/850AM WRUF.
Seventy-eight meetings between the Gators and Seminoles is the most with any opponent in Florida history. The Gators hold a 42-35 series advantage, but FSU has claimed the last five with UF's last win occurring in 2015 over the No. 6 ranked Seminoles, 82-72. The Orange & Blue hold the longest winning-streak in the series, taking 16-straight from 1993-2003.

Florida heads into Sunday fresh off of a victory over Atlantic-10 preseason favorite, Dayton, 60-57. Wednesday's victory over Dayton marked the Gators' highest-rated win of the season, with the Flyers checking in at No. 91 in the NET prior to the matchup.

Lavender Briggs led UF with 18 points while Kiara Smith tallied 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Jordyn Merritt also contributed 11 points and eight boards. Florida's win over Dayton marked the first win over a preseason conference favorite since defeating Chattanooga (SOCON) and North Carolina A&T (MEAC) during the 2015-16 season.

With her 18 points, Briggs is closing in on 1,000 career points in her Florida career. The Provo, Utah native is currently sitting at 938 points, just 62 points away from becoming the 27th member of the club. Briggs is also sitting at 19th in the nation and first in the SEC in field goals made with 65.
The floor general for the Gators, Smith has been impressive in multiple aspects of the game for UF during the season. The graduate has tallied 20 assists over three games, the most in a three-game stretch since Delicia Washington recorded 21 in three-straight games from Nov. 23, 2017-Dec. 3, 2017.

Smith's defense has risen to an elite level during the 2021-22 season, sitting at 14th nationally with a total of 28 steals on the year. She is also ranked 66th in the nation in steals per game, averaging 2.55 during each outing.
Defensively as a team, the third quarter has seen the Gators at the top of their game this season, outscoring opponents 182-135 during the frame. Florida has been almost as good heading into halftime, outscoring the opposition 197-153 in the second quarter.

Florida is currently in the midst of their hardest-stretch of games so far during the year, beginning with Dayton on Wednesday who was ranked 91st in the NET Rankings prior to the matchup. Florida State (48) and Murray State (92) also sit in the top-100 to close out non-conference play for the Orange & Blue

Florida State Faces Florida in Gainesville on Sunday
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The 83rd meeting between rivals Florida State (6-2) and Florida (8-3) happens on Sunday afternoon at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville at 1 p.m. on the SEC Network.
The Gators lead the all-time series 44-38, but under Head Coach Sue Semrau (since 1997, not counting last year’s meeting), the Seminoles lead the series 13-12

The Seminoles have won five consecutive games over the Gators entering Sunday’s afternoon contest, which includes a season-opening 81-75 win in Tallahassee last year behind 22 points from Morgan Jones. The game last year was the head coaching debut of then-Interim Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff. FSU’s current five-game win streak in the series is its longest since winning seven straight from 1978-1980.
Florida State seniors Valencia Myers, Kourtney Weber and Morgan Jones have an opportunity to finish 4-0 vs. Florida in their FSU careers with a win on Sunday. Two years ago, FSU Alumna Nicki Ekhomu and Nausia Woolfolk became the first seniors ever to go undefeated vs. UF when the Seminoles picked up a 66-55 win in their last trip to Gainesville in 2019.
The Seminoles continue to have success against fellow teams from the Sunshine State, owning a 46-6 record in their last 52 games vs. teams from the state of Florida. This season, FSU is 2-0 with home wins over UNF (78-50) and Jacksonville (64-39).

FSU senior and returning All-American Morgan Jones has been selected as one of 30 women’s basketball candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. Jones’ off-the-court leadership qualities include being a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, participating in different sub-committees of the FSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), mentoring incoming freshmen for FSU’s Summer Bridge program and forming the Black Student Athlete Association.

Perfect opportunity to build a buzz and the fan base. I don't know what UF is doing for this one, but it should be free admission and some freebies during the game and pizza discounts or something afterwards. And the Gators need to win.

The win would be the real prize
At least for the last few seasons the Gator WBK has served Ice Cream before or after Sundae Sundays, usually the players hang out and sign stuff for the kids

hope to see you there @GatorPlanet the O'Dome has plenty of room and the FSU crew travels well most games I have been to

This is a big game for the team. Lost some we shouldn't have, but that could easily be forgotten with a win today. Been a while since we took out FSU.

The talent level has definitely evened out a good bit. If the girls keep the energy up they should win this one. Still a couple of questions regarding minutes for me. We have a player or two who I think need more minutes and a couple I question the minutes they get. Best the team has looked this season so far though, so can't complain. It's been 5 or 6 years since we beat FSU so this would be a really nice win for recruiting and program building.

Gators are in position to win at the half. Need to keep it going. If Lavender starts to bust out, we'll win it going away.

I love the fact we are up 22 with Lav and Kiki having very avg or below avg shooting games. The other women have really stepped up, we seem to have the talent advantage and Kelly Rae does not seem to be all in their ear every time down court. She is letting them play free flowing and the defense led by Zippy has been very good all game

Best game they've played in the last 3 years in my opinion really did well FSU had some pretty tall critters but our kids took care of it and did well had Noles On either side of us also the biggest crowd in the last couple of years maybe some people who are willing to spend some time on women's basketball will start showing up
