I went with Duruji, but you make a compelling case. Jones is a “quiet” player... so may be overlooked here. And I think most are weighing of his shooting slump. I too expect that to improve.
Just a heads up. Currently Pomeroy has CC ranked as the eighth best player in the country. I will now piss off.
Sure, and I put him as my top player. Still haven't seen your input on #2. And now that we're both pi$$ed off, perhaps we can carry on. Go Gators
No worries because I'm the only person that put Appleby who is second in scoring and leads in assists. It's why I thought it was an interesting question, because an argument could be made for any of them. The folks saying Castleton isn't our best player, however... They're weirdos
agreed - still too early to make a definitive call because nobody's done it consistently yet. Right now for me it's Fleming because of his ability to put the ball in his hands and go get a bucket when we need it. I'm hopeful that Jones finds his shooting touch again and becomes that guy by the end of the season, though, he's a more complete player imo and has done it at a higher level than PF. I like that AD is playing less out of control this year and not fouling as much - he was huge in the FSU game and I loved seeing that. Still needs a lot of work offensively though, so I see him as more of a complementary effort guy than a #2. I really like McKissic's attitude, effort and defense - I wasn't sure how he'd adjust to this level of competition but he's been mostly solid so far. Like others have said he's an emotional leader, but I feel like he's probably best off the bench as a sixth man. never been much of an Appleby fan - the kid tries hard but for me he's way too erratic to be our main option at point.
And herein lies the problem with our team, besides the coach. Sure it's nice to have several if not all the starters be a force on the team like our 2 NC teams. But none of our other players deserve to be thought of as the second best player on the team. We don't have enough consistency from game to game and thus we can't depend on any one player to step up. Castleton can't do it all. Hey its great winning 4 in a row over the lower half of the SEC but let's see some real improvement in these next 4 games and start playing competitive basketball with the top half of the SEC.
I guess it depends if the moon is waning, waxing, or full. Point is I'm not ready to throw a name in the hat without some consistency. Maybe you'd like this one. I think the second player with the most potential is Reeves. But again he lacks consistency, possibly because he is a freshman.
I just saw this poll for the first time and cast my vote for Appleby. He's more impactful than the rest. The fact that there are so many different opinions is very revealing.
I think that is because the ball goes through Appleby. Since the offense runs through him when he is in the game, the offense goes as he goes. Just like a QB in football, the PG is the QB position for a basketball team. With good QB play, the offense looks great. Not so much when the QB is struggling.
Pre season reports were about how much Duruji improved. By far the team leader in personal fouls and has been a turnover machine of late 2021-22 Men's Basketball Cumulative Statistics - Florida Gators
Just seeing this but if I had to go entire season, clutch, consistent, overall best I say Appleby. Before the season clearly CC but injuries, turnovers, etc change it for me. CC goes head to head against Kessler, Oscar, has to hold his own.
