We don't beat ranked teams every year? lol. Just making up narratives. Also, you can't judge this year's team based off other years. Completely different roster.

Am I the only person that is afraid Gatkek is going to literally snap in half when he plays?

In the Monday night game he was called for an offensive foul when a Texas Southern player fell down hard.

I then yelled at a ref (not the one that made the call) "How can that guy knock anybody over?"

    He laughed.

I never subscribed to that particular thought process.

But the hardwood and tennis shoe in SEC play is about to vibrate with dribbling and dunking man and UF and the fan base will know soon enough where this team stands.

There are seven really good SEC teams all about the same caliber. Where we end up in that mix will depend a lot on luck. If we do great it doesn't mean that Coach White is a genius, but if we don't it doesn't mean that he is a bad coach.

I didn't watch the game, but did receive score "alerts". The Gators were favored by 27 points, so a 30-point win isn't unexpected. And it hardly makes up for their play against OU and particularly the abortion that was Texas Southern. That said, they scored a lot of points and gave up very few. Our shooting % is still abysmal and we got outrebounded by an inferior team. Still a lot of issues with this team.

Somebody has a signature about how no fan base suffers so much after a victory like the Gator fan base.

I wish that I could get it exactly right and cite the correct poster.

While I agree it was only one outlier game, outliers are real events, so they can’t just be ignored.

Imagine a professional home builder who builds seven homes that all withstand a major hurricane without a single problem. Then imagine he builds an eighth home that is leveled by a moderate breeze.

He has a proven record of success (the first seven) and just a single bad outlier (the eighth). From this data, we can expect that probably his next home will be a good one, but there is now way he will command the same price that he did before. And he shouldn’t. That eighth home needs to be taken into account in forecasts.

I am not suggesting that our team can’t do good things this year, but I would definitely bet on a Gator team in alternate universe who rocked TSU over the one in our universe that got rocked.

Not sure I can get jiggy wit that example. You could apply this to any team in sports that doesn't go undefeated. The level of expectations are wildly different for building a home versus winning a sports match.

No, it’s not the fact that there was a loss. Florida lost to Oklahoma in the previous game, and it was no big deal. Florida was favored by 1 over OU on the road, so we should expect to almost half of such games.

What I was trying to demonstrate is that it wasn’t just any loss. The margin of victory was something like 40 points below expectation. To a very bad team. Again you are correct that it was only game, but it was a game. Ohio St was only one game too, but that doesn’t mean we should ignore it. It should go in the file with all the other single games.

Trying to think of a (worse) loss in my 43 years of Gator basketball and am having trouble finding one in my memory bank.

BUT ENOUGH on that. UF got whipped, it was ugly and it is over.
    Nice bounce back against UNF.

I'm with "MH" on this one - it sucked but lets move on. The team has played some awful good basketball, lets see what happens with Maryland!

Last night we again saw the energy and tenacity of this team and for them to win they have to play like that every night. They did not bring any of that to the TSU game and deserved the result so maybe they realize they can't come out and go through the motions because of an underwhelming opponent. There are games they are going to lose because I wouldn't call them a great shooting team but as long as they show the effort and emotion that they did last night they will give themselves an opportunity to win any game and that is all we can ask as fans.

Colin played better as he warmed up in the game. He is definitely the leader on this team. If he has an off night and/or gets bullied by physical front lines, we better have great shooting nights from everyone else.

Agree. But will we see that going forward (bench use)? I’m afraid when it comes down to it and we are playing equally talented opposition he won’t trust playing an extended bench. And thus is the problem. Hopefully he learns and trusts using our depth going forward.

Oh jeez, are we pretending like an historic loss like that didn’t warrant criticism, considering the years of data we have on White’s teams?

We all want the Gators to win regardless of where our support is for White as a coach.

It counts as one loss in the W-L column. Let’s not give it more importance because it was a game we should not have lost. I never said it should be ignored, and it appears that the coaches and players did not ignore it by the way they played last night.
