When the Gators have these blowouts against lesser teams, the stats get whacky. Example, the Gators had 21 steals. Wowser, that's a lot of steals. Another anomaly occurs when a player gets some positive stats and has virtually no negative stats (missed shots, missed FTs, fouls, or TOs). So yes, the MVG might be a surprise. First, though, it was great to see minutes for Jitoboh, Reeves, Kennedy, Lane, Klatsky, and some guy named Fred from the laundry facility. Team win with many good performers. Your MVG scored 13, with 1rb, 1asst, and 4 steals. He missed zero shots, had zero TOs and only one foul. Oh, and he didn't start. Your MVG is Tyree Appleby. This is demonstrating the lack of credibility to the challenge. I get this "whacky" challenge is a bit twisted but when a Gator player has perhaps one of the top statistical nights so far this year (Castleton) and his grade is not even one third as good as the top score, I'm calling BS. I figured Appleby would come in at least in the top 3 but this result is not even close to reality. Felder comes in second with 2 pts 2 boards and 3 steals. I guess if you need a whole paragraph to deal with the "anomalies" that should tell you something about the reality of the results. I usually enjoy the comradery from these season long challenges but this reminds me of the old "Who's Line Is It Anyway" where the points don't really matter.
It’s .5 so let’s not be so dramatic. Look at the formula and tell me where it’s wrong. I posted the formula in the FSU thread. The formula accounts for more than pts and v rebounds. Appleby didn’t miss any shots and still scored 13. That’s efficiency.
In the past, Mvg did not factor. I found a way to insert a little side bet. Nobody is winning this contest based on it. If we used pts/rebounds only that would not only be erroneous it would be boring. But I do welcome the dialogue. At least you have some specific points to discuss unlike Lurker who bitched w/o any meaningful feedback.
I appreciate that. I get that basketball isn't always about what single player scores the most points. Hello NBA on ESPN. But his system seems like its skewed too highly on steals and productivity per minutes. I mean if Klatsky comes off the bench with under 2 minutes to go, grabs a loose ball that credits him for a steal, runs down and scores a layup, then he might have been the MVG. Point is that impact would not have had any bearing on the outcome of the game when its scrubs time on the court.
