Why is this relevant? The point of the article is people in the hospital with covid are almost all unvaccinated, even though a majority of adults are vaccinated. Nothing was said of spread. Nothing was said of comorbidities. If they had been vaccinated they likely wouldn't be at the hospital.

How hard is thst to understand?

No…when a doctor writes an opinion piece that does not match the data I look into it to see if there is a reason the opinion might be slanted.

The hard data says the majority in the hospital and dying now are vaccinated. Yes a big reason is that a majority are now vaccinated. But when you push an opinion with hyperbole…it will be questioned.

A doctor with political motives pushing an opinion on sadly a political virus should be questioned.

How much do you want to bet both of his patients he used as an example had real comorbidity issues? I could be wrong but considering his position in rural Michigan is so far from the actual data…I would bet the two examples he used both are high risk.

I couldn't find anything showing the whole state, but I did find this for the University of Michigan health system (one of the largest health providers in the state):
COVID-19 at Michigan Medicine by the Numbers | Michigan Medicine

It shows the majority of those in the hospital are unvaccinated. It doesn't show deaths, but 100% of the patients they have on ventilators (the last treatment before death) are unvaccinated.

Do you have a source for data for the whole state showing vaccination status for the sick and dying?

I also asked this poster for a source to the dubious claim and provided NY hosp. data that refutes his assertions..
    Rates of Cases & Hospitalizations
These rates of cases and hospitalizations over time and estimated vaccine effectiveness cover through the week of November 8, 2021 (ending November 14, 2021), to allow enough time for the data needed for valid comparisons to become available in data systems.

Summary of findings for all people age 18 years or older:
    COVID-19 CASES

    • In comparing the rates of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases between fully-vaccinated and unvaccinated people using the vaccine effectiveness measure, fully-vaccinated New Yorkers continue to be strongly protected against infection.
      • For the week of May 3, 2021, the estimated vaccine effectiveness shows fully-vaccinated New Yorkers had a 91.9% lower chance of becoming a COVID-19 case, compared to unvaccinated New Yorkers.
      • Although this effectiveness measure declined through mid-July, this decline then ceased. In the week of November 8, 2021, fully-vaccinated New Yorkers had a 78.6% lower chance of becoming a COVID-19 case, compared to unvaccinated New Yorkers.
    COVID-19 HOSPITALIZATIONS

    • Comparing the rates of COVID-19 hospitalization between fully-vaccinated and unvaccinated people using age-adjusted vaccine effectiveness, fully-vaccinated New Yorkers remain strongly protected against COVID-19 hospitalization.
      • Across the time period of analysis, fully-vaccinated New Yorkers had between an 89.8% and 95.1% lower chance of being hospitalized with COVID-19, compared to unvaccinated New Yorkers.

Do you have any data to support that (majority of deaths are vaccinated)in the US. It could be true in places like Israel. Yes at a certain point it will become true if a vast majority of people are vaccinated or have natural immunity. We probably are not there yet.

They probably do have some comorbidities. That wasn't the point. Arguably most adults technically have some comorbidity. I'm beginning to think this is a way for you to humble brag as you assert your health is impeccable. Whether that's true or not, it's not relevant to the point.

The point is people are still dying who don't have to if they had just gotten vaccinated.

It is amazing we can’t get that data in this country easily. The UK has solid data. Israel has solid data. A couple of the northeastern states had the data (think it was New Hampshire and Vermont).

It should be easily posted every month. Just crazy we have to dig for something that should be so easy to provide.

Not sure how to easily get back to that post. But vermont was one of the most vaccinated and lowest infection and hospitalization rates in the country. Michigan and most states for that matter are completely different animals.

Interesting, I couldn’t read it paywalled.
I was talking with one of our medical monitors a few weeks ago and he mentioned a study that and issue with the patients with severe hypoxia is not fluid in the lungs but that Covid affects fat transport across membranes which then moves fast into the Aveoli. Using an old drug fenofibrate dramatically reduces the need for ventilation and oxygen and was even helpful in long haul covid with respiratory issues.

I’ll have to do some digging

University of Florida professor says he was blocked from testifying about coronavirus measures

“The report stated that staff felt "external pressure to destroy" data and "barriers to accessing and analyzing" data in a timely manner.

The document added that staff said there were "barriers to publication of scientific research which inhibited the ability of faculty to contribute scientific findings during a world-wide pandemic."

A fourth University of Florida professor alleged in November that the school rejected his request to testify against state leaders and provide his expertise on the impact of COVID-19 on children.“

The UK has been putting this data out for months in their technical briefs. A majority in the hospital for Covid are fully vaccinated. A majority dying are fully vaccinated. And yes a majority of the population is fully vaccinated.

Though that might be changing soon if you don’t have a certain number of boosters…:confused:o_O:cool::)

You should research the cost of obesity to the healthcare system. Oh…and that would drastically reduce the burden of Covid on the healthcare system.

That said…both the vaccinated and unvaccinated are using the expensive treatments when they get the virus. Both the vaccinated and unvaccinated are ending up in the hospital. Both the vaccinated and unvaccinated are dying from the virus.

But let’s just blame healthy people who are low risk and not putting any stress on the health system for choosing to take good care of themselves and not taking a new drug to force their body into action. Shoot let’s blame the people with more protection via natural immunity than the boostered to max person.

One thing not talked about enough is all these muh freedumb horse pasters taking up hospital beds means less resources to take care of car crash or heart attack victims.

Not getting vaccinated is the same as being a draft dodger in the 1940s.

I will continue to say it. And people will continue to dismiss it most likely.

The number one way to fight Covid is by taking care of yourself with life changes if you are not healthy and overweight. The fauc said this in 2019 before becoming an authoritarian tyrant. It is much easier to be lazy and take a new drug I suppose. But…

Some people here could use a good statistics class.

First, we all agree that almost all COVID deaths come from adults. So when calculating the odds of dying from COVID, we can exclude kids under 18. Vermont has a total population vaccination rate of 72%, meaning adult population is likely 80% or higher. Some places like Israel and parts of the UK have even higher overall vaccination rates. It seems like when the adult population hits 80% vaccinated is when hospitalization and death rates tilt towards a higher overall number of vaccinated people. But that doesn't mean the vaccine isn't working, unless you don't understand math.

Let me explain. These numbers have nothing to do COVID, but just a simple math example. Say you are a part of a Squid Game type event, where you are 1 of 100 people. You can choose to be part of a group of 20 people where 1 person will be randomly chosen to die, or you can choose to part of a group of 80 people, where 3 people will be chosen at random to die. Which group do you choose? The person who is bad at math might look at things and say the group of 20 only has 1 person who dies, whereas the group of 80 has 3X times of people who won't make it; so he'd chose the group of 20. But odds are, you have a better chance of surviving if you choose the group of 80. Chances of dying in the group of 20 is 1:20, whereas in the group of 80, it's 1:26.67. Another interesting note, if you play the game again, but change the number to 90 and 10, with same death rates, your chance of survival in the smaller group is cut in half! But in the larger group, your odds only improve to 1:30.

The above example is what we are seeing with COVID deaths. Among the vaccinated, there are close to no deaths for people under 50. And in places with high vaccination rates, the rate for people over 50 is 90% or higher. So yes, there are more people vaccinated who end up in the hospital or the morgue, but your survival chances are still greatly increased if you receive the vaccine.

While living a healthy life will benefit you for many things, and not just against COVID, there are plenty of anecdotal stories out there of people dying from COVID, who had no preexisting conditions. There are also those who may have genetic preexisting conditions, such as type 1 diabetes or asthma, that while making healthy choices can help keep these conditions at bay, they are still at higher risk from COVID for just having these conditions. And for these people, a healthy person with no underlying conditions who is COVID positive runs a higher risk than an overweight person with a heart condition, who is COVID negative. This is why everyone eligible should get vaccinated. It's the best way to slow the spread of COVID.

Well you at least get into the reality that the healthy are statistically/mathematically not in much danger.
