i'm sorry but I have to identify Appleby's game last night. Here are the stats for him last night In for 26 minutes 1-7 field goals 0-6 3 pointers 4 turnovers He scored 3 points total. How can we win a game when we have one out of five players with those stats?? Give me your thoughts.
Does he sulk if he comes off the bench? Either way, we absolutely needed a quality PG after the inconsistency he showed last year, but here we are again as our best option.
It sometimes is just as simple as that. Rough night for a couple of our guys and you get blown out by an inferior opponent.
He shot terribly and played a lot of hero ball against Oklahoma as well. That shot against Ohio State might have gone to his head.
Appleby as played horrific as of late. White "benched" him for 4 minutes to start the game. That is not nearly enough. Kennedy needs more time.
He was 0-6 in that game as well, until the shot. So to some extent it’s probably just a shooting slump. Although he is only an “ok” shooter in the first place. The bigger problem to me is the turnovers and lack of assists. He jacked 10 3’s against OK but still had more turnovers than made buckets. These are brutal stats.
Can Mckissic play the point. Put Kennedy at the 2 Reeves at the 3 Felder and CC at 4 and 5 Can bring off Appleby, Jones, Dujuli (sp) off bench
He was 0-8 at one point against Oklahoma too, and many of those shots were just bad decisions. And he had two assists and three turnovers as well. He needs to ride pine if he can’t figure out the basic job of a point guard.
True was back and forth on him and Felder. I have ran thru many lineups in my head. I really like Kennedy
But, practically all of you say that Ques Glover wasn't good enough to play for this team. You might want to rethink it. Ques is having a great season so far for Samford. He is averaging 18.8 ppg and 4.6 apg in 29.1 mpg. On a 40 mpg basis, that equates to 25.8 ppg and 6.4 apg. Ques also, in his last 8 games, is 44-45 from the free throw line. Now, most of you will say that he is doing this against weak teams. Well, Samford has played games against San Francisco and Belmont. San Francisco's NET is 29 and its RPI is 20. Belmont's NET is 38 and its RPI is 17. San Francisco's NET is higher than any team that we have played. Belmont's NET is higher than any team we have played other than Ohio State. How did Ques do against those teams? He had 24 points and 1 assist against San Francisco on 6-11 from 2, 2-4 from 3, and 6-6 from the line. Against Belmont, Ques scored 22 points and had 6 assists on 5-11 from 2, 3-7 from 3 and 3-3 from the line. Ques also had a great game against Oregon State. Ques' best games have been against the best teams on Samford's schedule. So what's significant about this from the Gator point of view? All you have to do is think about the high school kids who have come to Florida, have not developed and have left. It has been happening since day 1 under Mike White. Each of them faced somewhat different circumstances at UF, but most of these kids had the talent to succeed. They didn't and they left. Samson Ruzhnetsev has a ton of talent. Did he get into the rotation last season? No. Did he develop? No. Now, after 1 year, he is gone. We are now seeing a repeat with Kowacie Reeves. The Gators would be a way better team right now if Glover and Ruzhnetsev were still here and were being used in the right way, and if Reeves was in the rotation and was getting more and more playing time as the season progressed.
To give a fuller picture of Glover 3 of the 8 teams he has played against are not in Division 1 and he takes almost 30% of the shots his team takes. But he is 38 for 38 from the line and that is VERY impressive.
I don't get staying with guys that aren't playing well. Do we have a lineup that doesn't play 3 guards, if they aren't performing against a team that is murdering us on the boards. I am not suggesting Castleton and Jitoboh together as I did last year with Castleton and Payne, but how about Castleton, Duruji and Felder (who seems more versatile than I anticipated) together on occasion?
No one has said that . . . at least not that I have read. What people have said is that he wasn't good enough to see significant minutes behind the guards we had last season . . . and would likely be in the same scenario this season. And nothing he is doing at Samford changes that. In fact, landing at Samford suggests every other P5 coach felt the exactly same, and seemingly ... so too did Glover. He has found a place at which the competition for playing time, and the competition during games will allow him more opportunity and success. But for some reason, you cant find peace with that reality.
You have said it. You would take Jones over him at the point every Sunday or something to that effect. You beat to death that Glover only got one Power conference offer. That’s meaningless. You have disregarded that Glover has excelled against very good teams this year while we have seen the current Gator point guards stink it up against lousier teams. What’s interesting to me is that Glover has averaged 13 ppg this year in Sanford’s blow outs of the 3 Division 2 teams it has played. He has absolutely kicked ass against the other teams. The reality is that you can’t find peace with the fact that Glover is better than the PGs we have on the current team and that White doesn’t have a clue as to how to develop his young players.
White is guilty of recruiting poorly to his style, culture and needs. . . and the resulting turnover is on him. But your "development" argument, or this idea that we lost really talented kids is undermined by the reality that nearly all have either: a) left the game entirely (johnson, stokes, ballard) or b) found varying degrees of success on significantly smaller stages (gak glover, bassett, okauru, Walker, Osifo) Only one, Nembhard, has moved to a significant program and became “better”.... and that isn’t a surprise to anyone. He was a great player at Florida who was only going to get better. The book isn’t written on Locke or Payne... but the former seems to be getting more shot opportunities, while the latter is looking increasingly buried.
There is something funny about you saying I “beat to death” anything related to Glover. But joking aside, I think it’s important for me to say this: I honestly admire your passion for the players. We simply disagree on how good some of these departed players really are/were - and the significance of their successes elsewhere and how that may translate. I have lost the compulsion to argue against these kids, and it never really was my intent. With the exception of the very rare few... I really root for all of our past players and coaches. This is especially true for Glover. Believe it or not... I was really excited about him, and my posting history will show such. But for whatever reason we want to assign - it didn’t work. I hope he does great! Moving forward, I’m going to try avoiding this debate. We won’t agree, and I’d rather focus on the guys we have. go Gators!
