I was going to mention this one. I've been to well over 100 Gator football games. That's the only one I've left early. Don't think I've ever been more disgusted with a team than on that day.
It wasn’t like that until after the last game. The negative posters were all celebrating our pending national championship until last night and then showed their true colors.
You don’t know how wrong you are. I had called my brother at halftime laughing my a— off because he is a nole. Imagine my disappointment in getting ragged still today over that one! WORST EVER!
A lot of excellent examples, all of which I experienced first hand. I’d argue that for cumulative embarrassment it’s hard to top football 2021. 1. Loss to undermanned LSU after they fire their coach. 2. Loss to underdog UK having a FG blocked for a TD. 3. Loss to crappy USCe team by 41 to whatever. 4. Another loss to underdog Mizzou, with their coach Drinkwitz or whatever adding to the embarrassment. 5. The last 2 minutes of first half against UGA. 6. The Samford game. 7. The post game dancing following #6. 8. The first half against Vandy. And don’t get me started about the rest of the season.
This actually was probably worse than Ga Southern... We were coming off our NYT national title, and stripped SEC title. That year we would go on to finish 9-1-1, be picked by Sagarin to win the national title, and unofficially win the SEC. And we tied Rutgers- a team that finished 2-8-1, at home. The team that lost to Ga Southern was garbage- they had given up. It was bad, but I saw it coming. The Rutgers tie was inexplicable. Like the b-ball loss last night...
Georgia Southern. No question. On a more fun topic, what was fsu's most embarrassing loss? Jackson State? Getting banished from the bowl season by losing to a 5-6 UF team this year?
I was going to make that an honorable mention. Remember it well. Both Emmitt Smith and the starting QB (Kyle Morris?) were injured in that game to add insult to injury. Consequently, we ended up losing to Vandy the next week. If memory serves, that was the last time we lost to Vandy before Muschamp managed to repeat the achievement in 2013.
That shoe toss put bad mojo on all Gator athletics. Lost last three in football and the horrible season this year. Baseball getting stomped and eliminated 19-1 by South Alabama in the regionals. Softball complete collapses in super regionals against UGA. Now this basketball loss.
Georgia Southern was worse. Nebraska was worse. In the grand scheme one hoops game has very little impact unless we are a bubble team. But we already have a couple real quality wins. That said...we have a hoops board people. Lets move the conversation over there.
If you could undo one loss in the history of GATOR basketball, would this be it? With that context in mind, this doesn't rank very high on the list of upsetting losses in GATOR history. I don't get the application of the term "embarrassing," but I have no problem recognizing that it was still an epically bad performance. We're going to have more highs that get us too high this season, and presumably some more lows that get us too low. Hopefully more of the former. Looking forward to the ride. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Lol..you missed Manhattan in the tournament..FSU game winning shot where we SCORED THE GAME WINNING SHOT ACCIDENTALLY!! Let's not talk about football with Georgia Southern..lol...if that's not enough winning against Samford and CELEBRATING LIKE WE WON A RING..lol..yea I could think of waayyyy worse. Lol
Really good question. The elite 8 game vs Butler comes to mind especially with how the refs let them get back in the game.
Larry Ochab threw a better ball than Emory! I was there. It took hitting bottom to rise once again! LOL
That E8 loss to Michigan was embarrassing. Trailing by 24 in the first half. Probably as ill prepared as a Billy team ever looked on a big stage.
