not coming from me, so you Mike White for life guys, don’t shoot the messenger. #20 Gators down 10 at Halftime “Yikes. The rollercoaster ride of the Mike White era” “I can't say I'm not surprised, I certainly am, but you just can't trust Mike White.” “mike white is just not a very good coach” “Another flash in the pan guy it seems. Courted a couple of solid teams. Hasn’t done much since.” “He’s gotta be feeling pressure. Football maybe first at UF, but they do kinda care about basketball” “Honestly mike white has flopped so much in recent years they should fire him after the game” https://www.secrant.com/rant/sec-football/florida-54-texas-southern-69-final/100108097/ “The true Mike White is back” “This is a fireable offense to me” “I’m watching the game. Mike White looks lost” “Looks like Florida is gonna be looking for another new coach” — Pretty spot on imo
I feel bad for the true blue Gator basketball fans that they have to listen to us fair weather fans bitch after a loss so I'll shut up. I do appreciate you guys.
Should we base how we feel about our coach and team based on what other fanbases think? I couldn't care less what they say. Mike White teams have probably sent them home in tears.
LOL! What an odd thing to do . . . go peruse rival sites to endure the ridicule?! LMAO! I wont turn my tv on for 2 days . . . and you're out there seeking out the abuse?!?!!
Should we not care that our team is a laughing stock for losing badly to a previously winless team? Dude step away from the sunshine you are so blindly pumping. There is no defending this loss. Period!
No need to respond to White’s fans. I expected their deflection for this embarrassment. Here’s a really good take on this loss. —- What it means: Florida proved Monday that it cannot be trusted — not in any regular-season game and especially not in a potential postseason appearance. It’s one thing to suffer a close upset loss to a bad team. It’s quite another to get absolutely trounced at home as a ranked host. That is a failure of leadership. White deserved credit for how the Gators played to open this season, but there is literally nothing he can say to excuse this loss. It’s a microcosm of his career at UF: Even when the team looks like it has turned a corner, utter disaster is right around the next one. Unless Florida rebounds in a massive way over the remainder of this season, this embarrassment is going to cost it a ton of national respect https://www.onlygators.com/12/06/20...assed-in-epic-blowout-loss-to-texas-southern/
We would just hire another unknown coach from a non-P5 conference. Think we will just be average in basketball under Coach White. Not terrible and never great. Pay Mark Few from Gonzaga a 10 year $8 million per year contract like the big boys do. Can’t go cheap with inexperienced coaching hires. IF is not a place to learn on the job.
100% agree. I really hope he's paying close attention because at some point you have to decide if White is the right coach. Getting blown out by a winless SWAC team at home where your team doesn't show up better be enough for him to start at least searching for a possible replacement. Not saying White should be fired right now, but at the end of the year, Stricklin needs to decide if White is the right guy for the program. Unfortunately I think Stricklin is not getting rid of him and he's here to stay. Maybe tonight was just an aberration, but White's history says something else.
From KP's citation above. This appears to be a theme going back to the PX whatever tourney against Duke: Even when the team looks like it has turned a corner, utter disaster is right around the next one.
I dunno... there is some hyperbole there. When has florida had a season marked by “utter disaster”? Inconsistent? Sure. Disastrous? Nope.
The quote doesn't mention a season. It's more of a reference to individual outcomes, imo. But a pattern exists for those type of outcomes.
Ok - but wouldnt a pattern of "disastrous" outcomes yield something much closer to disastrous seasons?
It wasn’t so long ago that we were projected as a Final Four type team that almost immediately dropped out of the top 25 and narrowly made the dance. That’s pretty disastrous to me for a team projected to compete for a Final Four. This team we have this season is a veteran bunch of players. It’s not like he has a team of freshmen that are new to the college game. If White can’t do something with the talent and experience he has with this team, can we expect him to ever do any better?
I’ve been saying this for years. We just don’t handle any kind of success at all. But on the the flip side, Whites teams do tend to pull out a surprising win to pull themselves off the mat. You can never get too excited, nor can you write them off. Mike White in his career has had way too many home losses, and a crazy one like this is just one more for the pile. I’m talking 6-7 home losses in a season. I guess his road record must be slightly better than expected, which is really what has kept us in the tourney each year and kept the bottom from falling out.
Not that I disagree with you in principle, but I said from the start (even before OK) this team looked “offensively challenged”. White did put together a nice looking group via transfer (without all those transfers this might be a winless SEC team), but it’s mostly blue collar players - not like we have overwhelming NBA talent. Appleby has really struggled at PG the last 3 games (the game winner vs. OSU covered up that he mostly struggled badly in that game). Not sure what the answer there is, Appleby is probably our best ball handier so makes sense to have him at PG but he’s very loose at times. He needs to shoot better to be effective, but he’s been in a bad slump shooting which seems to be effecting him. Hopefully it doesn’t turn mental.
