My take? I can't believe they have lost all that program buzz so fast. Truly, I think they need to go back to the drawing board. I think teams have figured out a way to slow them down on offense and obviously the back door cuts on our defense. WAY slow on rebounds and help defense.
I’m no longer attending the Orange Bowl Classic basketball tournament. Was planning on coming down a couple of days early from my oncologist appointment on Monday the 20th. But now I’ll just come down Sunday the 19th instead. Not spending a dime watching a Mike White coached team. Live here in Gainesville and refuse to go. The OBC I usually went to reunite with my South Florida peeps, but no one wants to go anymore. We used to nearly fill that place. Now FSU brings more fans.
Totally agree with that. Hope the Gators don't collapse like that but it's possible after tonight. Still think it will be more typical up and down basketball under Mike White. Just think that Stricklin's standards for basketball is lower than football so not sure what would be the floor that would force him to make a move. As long as we make the tournament, doubt he's going anywhere.
Mike White teams have a history of playing balls out the first 4-5 games of the season before taking a nose-dive.
I do think some aspects of the game were "flukey", but I never expected this team to get outworked and play so flat. This was a disconcerting performance, even more than it was a disconcerting result. How this team responds will be very, very, very telling.
I've been watching the Gators since the 1970s. This may be our worst home loss in that whole time. Someone needs to own it.
Honestly, this is probably the worst loss in the last few decades for UF basketball. I know it would be exciting to write this off as a complete one-off, but it doesn't really fit. Texas Southern didn't hit every unbelievable shot under the sun. We didn't have a major injury or something go wrong. They went out there and beat us in almost every way. Should that be acceptable?
Just kinda had this conversation with my son. We were so excited that this team was different. Reality is it's just gonna be the same old MW thing as always.
I will only give you this mantra, one is an event, two is a coincidence, three is a trend. We are in the "coincidence" phase of the early season. It is truly baffling how this team got each other so early and now they are playing slow. That is NOT their identity.
Just for kicks I'm pulling my goto after a Gator loss.....The officiating was horrible and cost us that game!
