It is like the 29th time the shows been done, but the best by FAR. Parker Posey carries so much of that show. She's really good.
Just watched Red Notice on Netflix this week. It's a fun action comedy with the Rock, Ryan Reynolds, and the lovely Gal Gadot!
I think a lot of people assume it's just a kids show. However, it is currently #2 on Netflix so it does have an audience, but none of the younger adults I work with watch it.
Got one more to add: Marshall - a biopic of Thurgood Marshall (Netflix) one of the badass lawyers of our times and a personal hero. The movie centers on his defense of a black man in CT accused of raping a white woman OR read the book Devil in the Grove - he was targeted for lynching by the Sheriff and the Klan in Clermont FL while defending 5 black young men accused of raping a white woman.
One more to add: Don't look up- funny, sad, and terrifying as hell. Comet on course to destroy earth and the political and human responses. Meryl Streep is Madame President, Jennifer Lawrence is grad student who discovers the comet. Netflix.
Matrix—pass. No harm, but nothing added to the mythology. Nightmare Alley—strong thumbs up. Typical Del Toro visual and auditory spectacle, the last 40 seconds might make up for the additional 30 minutes. Oscars galore. Wheel of Time (Amazon)—starts shaky, rounds into excellence. Steals from LOTR, and I ain’t mad about it.
Matrix Resurrections made Matrix Revolutions look like Casablanca. And, to be kind, it wasn’t. BTW, Jordan was VERY MUCH inspired by Tolkien when writing his epic (he died before he finished it…hear that Martin? Get writing fat man!). So it doesn’t surprise me that you see a lot of LOTR in it. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I may have to commit the time.
I can’t even articulate the plot fully, so I can’t imagine that as a positive. Total fails on the “reboots” of old characters, and chasing a plot string I doubt most fans were terribly concerned about (and I’m a fan.) No set back, I suppose, but certainly no step forward either. Funnish, and I get the heart injection, I just don’t think most Matrix fans are in it for the love.
And the CONSTANT portions of old movies imposed throughout the movie to play on nostalgia for the original trilogy was both tortured and trite. The action was okay, but also felt pressured rather than part of the story…whatever that was for the first third of the movie. NPH was wasted too. Ugh…
Agreed. Give the fans some credit, we’ll piece it together without the curtain calls. A little insulting actually. You think I lined up on a Wednesday because I’m not familiar with the source code? Matrix fans can recite the idea alpha to omega. If you deep-dive the plot, it seems counterproductive to the entire premise. Looked cool, and I was pretty zoned in on the last action sequence. But after that wore off: meh, why yhe unforced drama?
Yeah, the early reviews all said that and I think it made people stay away. It's not what I think of as a kid's show one bit. Turns out I have issues with season 3 but the first two were truly great.
Acapulco on Apple+ is a really good. If you just want something light and to walk away with a smile on your face, this show does it. I also really like the actor that plays the adult version of the main character.
Home with the 'rona this week, so watching a bunch of movies. Belfast was great. Story about a kid just trying to be a kid amidst The Troubles in Ireland in the late 60's. Pig is a super weird movie, but cool to see Nicolas Cage give a real performance again after doing shlock action movies for years. The Lost Daughter didn't totally work for me, but interesting to see a story explore the idea that being a parent can be really frustrating and a huge burden. Last Night in Soho wasn't that great, but I totally understand the idea of building a movie around Anya Taylor-Joy as a 60's showgirl. My god.
