typing as i listen . . . first -congrats to coach kruger for being honored for what he has done and who he is. it was fitting that florida was here. from the jump - it was a very physical and hard fought game. points were hard to come by. they executed better. our 16 turnovers were key to the game. some of our threes were decent looks and we just missed -its part of the game. but we didnt get a lot of good looks. credit their defense. they attacked gaps, forced us to dribble. they move well, are strong and a they locked in on tyree and myreon. i gotta do a better job getting our guys looks. its a very somber locker room, especially for a team that has lost its first game in seven. its something we have to address, but its also a postive because they are so competitive. But we have ways to go. It is sometimes easier to learn after losses. you can see what can cost us. We have to get back to work and see what the final version of this team can be, but i think we can be very good.
Thanks for posting. I hope he addresses why his bench is so short in the bigger games. Would be nice to hear the reasoning.
Thanks Brent - glad he's self reflecting a bit here. Some of our guys went hero ball at the end and that needs to be coached outta 'em.
We are learning each other, will take time. When you depend on the 3 as much as we do you will have these types of games. As bad as we shot we still had a chance to win
Agree. I don't know how he expects to play only 7 guys throughout the whole season. Those guys will be worn out by the 10th game.
Love the typing as I listen..... now don't go take anymore games off for the rest of the season. We need fishing before games and typing as I listen after the games. Cool? Lol
I’m not sure why we didn’t see much of the freshmen, but Jitoboh and Lane are not good players at this time and they are liabilities on the court.
We don’t have any great ball handlers. If you play defense like OU did last night and make us dribble around we will turn the ball over.
Reeves,Kennedy are a must, I include Jitoboh due to Castleton not physical enough yet. These guys must get minutes. Jitoboh just needs a little jump hook on offense, but we only want him to work on defense, offense is part of the game. Castleton getting only 12-14 pts a game, getting something like 34 minutes there, I bet if they would play Jitoboh, he could get that many, but they aren’t trying to develop depth. I know that he doesn’t move like Castleton, but at 290 he is hard to move and he can score and rebound, but he has to get better for this team to get better. It is a team game and all the players on the team need minutes to get better.
Very glad he said that. I was surprised we couldn't come up with in-game adjustments to overcome OU's defense. They are likely one of the best defenses we'll face this year, but they certainly showed how best to defend our offense.
Anyone that has paid attention to White’s coaching tendencies should easily see that he feels more comfortable with experienced players on the floor. The Gators were turnover prone last night and that didn’t help him feel comfortable enough to put in less experienced players and possibly making the situation worse. With the cupcakes coming up he can give the underclassmen lots of playing time to help them acclimate to the speed of the college game and also gain confidence. Building confidence in the players and in himself to put them out there against good teams. That’s my opinion on why he shortened the rotation against Oklahoma. Also could have been that he was hoping the five he had on the floor would get into some sort of flow on offense without disrupting it with substitutes. He’s very much a creature of habit so that’s my take on his coaching decisions.
The reason that is flawed is that for the first 6 games of the season you played a long bench and asked max effort from every player for shorter stints and they responded well to it. Also, the players are conditioned now to the substitution pattern so when you change it up for one game it actually tires out players quicker, and what happens when players are tired....turnovers and mental mistakes. I think MW needs to buy into the system he developed the first 6 games and trust all his players and in the long run it will pay dividends...especially getting Reeves and Kennedy minutes in a tough game on the road.
Hadn't beaten FSU in 7 games and Ohio State proved how tough they are yet he went long bench in those games and it worked. Also missing the point they have been playing this way for the first six games this season so the players are conditioned a certain way now....has nothing to do with level of competition.
33, thanks for the insightful response. Last year, you would have been up his a$$ for that loss. We need to get 2 more into the rotation.
Well, it’s still early so I can’t promise that I won’t be calling for his firing if things go bad but I’m really hoping that he will let these boys continue to play as they have prior to the Oklahoma game.
We played a solid team on the road and if we shot the ball well we would have won easily. We didn't shoot well and lost. I am over it.
