Now that we are into December, Festivus is right around the corner. So in regard to the OU boxscore, here are my grievances. Please add if you have others 1. Only 7 players got into the game (all transfers) 2. 7 assists to 16 turnovers 3. 4-24 from "3" 4. Jones stat line for 40 minutes Florida vs. Oklahoma - Box Score - December 1, 2021 - ESPN
One of the risks of playing aggressive man to man defense is that it tends to make you susceptible to back door cuts and easy baskets. This has happened in the last two games and it cost the Gators more than they could make up for this time. Can White correct it? We will see as opposing teams are certainly seeing this as a vulnerability for the Gators and will continue to exploit it for as long as they can. White has to address this, the “Sooner” the better, pun intended. Also has to play deeper into his bench, especially if they are gonna play as aggressive on defense as he wants them to play. The offense needs to keep moving the ball and making the opposing defense work, the Gators took a step backwards in sharing the ball and there were too many individual plays where a player forced a poor shot. All things that can be fixed by a good coach and not unreasonable that we should expect it to be corrected. Let’s see if White indeed does improve these issues or if continues for the rest of the season. I truly believe this is a make or break year for White as this is a team with some talent as well as experience. The Gators have gotten off to a great start and this is their first hiccup. Will it be a bump in the road or a preview of coming attractions? It will be interesting to see if those issues persist when we play the next quality opponent. We won’t be able to evaluate much against cupcakes.
Not sure why we didn’t see much of Reeves or Kennedy. Kennedy can hit a 3. Gatkek, Jitoboh and Lane are not good enough right now.
It really seems like White let’s them do whatever they want out there. Our last 7 possessions looked like a bunch of guys playing at the local park with no organization.
Given the inability of anyone else to hit a three and the need to keep fresh legs, it seems clear that Kennedy should have been on the court to try a couple. Was there some reason we are not aware of that he did not play?
Rationale was probably just not trusting a young freshman to handle the ball when we were already having bad turnover problems
What frustrated me is that we failed to do what they were showing us against their similar tight defense. Why can they beat our (what we thought was) suffocating defense but we can't beat theirs? Maybe they're just better than us, but looking at the players I really think we had the edge in talent. Maybe I'm wrong....time will tell. While it was a true road game in a different environment, it didn't seem all that hostile on TV. At one point, one of the announcers commented on how quiet it was in there. Oh well.
Typically, White goes deeper into his bench in the first half, with Kennedy usually the first one in. The second half usually relies just on the seven that played last night, but all those first half minutes has to take a toll on the players in crunch time. Perhaps that 9-0, 14-4 start limited CMW's options in the first 10 minutes, but in the end, it was our guys and not Oklahoma's that dominated the last 5 minutes
I wasn't able to view online/TV or listed to the game via radio but there are sections of Chris Harry's recap of the game from floridagators.com regarding the OU road crowd environment: Sooners Hand Gators First Loss of Season - Florida Gators Not sure but it sounds like it was loud there at least to start with which contributed at least in small part to the Gators slow start. Hopefully it will help the Gators better prepare for similar if not more hostile SEC road game environments (especially at UK).
His box score looks ok, but he was just off. Vision was lacking, hesitation at times, looked fatigued. Not his best game. Says alot about his game though to have a bad night and a double double
