Assuming that you were not a lineman in high school, you were not one of the Gator fans that I could see in the stands. There was a lot of beef up there.

In high school I was 6' 2" and 205 lbs. Didn't play football. Still about the same.

Good for you. I was 6’ and 165. I am still 165, but I might have shrunk.

I’m sorry but the irony here is too good to pass up. That’s why you don’t act like a diva and demand playing time then skip town when you (rightfully) don’t get your demands met, should’ve been focusing on your game.

Enjoy the pine Omar, but hey maybe you can skip town again and dominate at Samford with Glover.

We said the same thing when I was playing for Binghamton. I can’t remember the exact order, but we beat some crappy team somewhere in New York, that beat Buffalo which beat Buffalo State which beat Akron which beat Butler which beat Michigan which was #1 at the time. I am 99.999999999999999% sure that we could not beat Michigan.

I saw Omar play when he was at Montverde. It was obvious that, although athletic, he had a long way to go to become a good player. I reported that on here, but, of course, many posters said that he was better than the giant Russian who started over him and went to FSU. And, of course, they were wrong. Kids like Omar are supposed to improve as they mature in college. That doesn’t happen very often in Gainesville nowadays. So, Omar left. He actually is improving, and he is in a rotation (spelling Kofi a couple of times in the first halves of games), but he is not going to get much playing time behind Kofi. We will see what happens next season. He has a long way to go to be a starter-level player on the Big Ten.

i don’t see the comparison you are making make much sense. Glovers stats at lower level Samford is not a better indicator than Glover last year/prior year at UF vs Appleby last year at UF.

in two years at UF Glover averaged 25% 3 pfg, 1-2 assist to turnover ratio, and 3.6 PPG

appleby in his one season (last year) averaged 35% from three, 1.1-1 assist to turnover ratio, and 11ppg.

now, appleby was older than Glover but both had equal opportunities to win playing time.

When watching UF play two years ago I rooted hard for Glover and liked his energy. Last season, I found myself completely frustrated with Applebys turnovers but compared to Glover he was John Stockton with the ball. When Glover came in the game I cursed my tv knowing the next play would be him driving aimlessly into the lane to pick up his dribble and lose the ball via a steal, throwaway, or blocked shot.

not to mention that appleby, while not the best defender, is light years better than Glover.

But just let the free market dictate which player has more upside/should be playing.

when appleby hit the transfer market, he ended up at power 5 UF. Glover, Samford. Enough said.

I hope Glover kicks butt at Samford but if he was still on UF he would be losing minutes to Kennedy. And maybe Glover will get a chance to transfer to a power 5 school at some point but for this year…appleby on UF > Glover on UF.

I understand where you are coming from, but I disagree. Glover did not get a real chance last year. He had no role. He wasn’t in the rotation. When he went into the game, he was usually at the wing. He got yanked if he made a mistake. His confidence was shattered. Posters would say how can we play a guy at point guard who can’t make a free throw. I would respond that he shot 85% from the line in high school, and this is a confidence thing. So, Glover transferred. In a recent 4 game stretch, Glover was 35-35 from the free throw line. He has his confidence back, and he is playing well in all aspects of the game, including defense. This is not a unique situation for kids playing for Mike White at UF. Very few of the high school kids coming into the program succeed at UF, and it’s not because they were overrated. If you want freshmen to become solid players, you have to get them into the rotation, and you have to put them into a position to succeed. That is not one of Mike White’s strengths.

    Tampa,

Two questions regarding the current roster:

    1) Of the returners whom impresses you the most?
    2) Of the transfers, whom impresses you the most?

Omar is no better then when he left fl. I am a big white fan and think players do get better under him. Look at CC, Appleby,Duriji(sp) big jump. Our first round pick last year from start to finish got much better.Omar is a ave BB player no matter who coaches him. Our freshmen this year are getting better.
White has also grown as a coach.
We will win a NC under coach White in the next 5 years and he will leave as all-time winning coach at Fl if he stays long enough.

I for one never had concerns about his free throws. That was just limited attempts and a bad season. Thanks for chatting!

I am still struggling to distinguish the newbies from each other. It might take a few more games to figure things out. Castleton is the best player on the team. The players are playing very well together. I would like to see Appleby move the ball better, although the offense is a lot more pleasant to watch than it was last season when we had 2 ball dominant guards dribbling all over the place.

Here’s some more thoughts after watching last night’s game. Fleming looks like the best of the new transfers. It’s interesting to me that he doesn’t have a very good outside shot and he’s not a great ballhandler, but he is a baller. In general, we are not a good ballhandling or outside shooting team. Appleby is the one really good ballhandler, but he plays out of control. Appleby and Jones are very good outside shooters, but that’s about it for the team, unless the freshmen get into the rotation and show us that they can shoot. All of these guys look like they can finish at the basket. The 7 transferees are solid defenders as a group, but as we saw last night, teams can beat them on back door cuts and the like if they come out too far on defense. One thing in favor of the Gators is a very favorable SEC schedule and a soft non-conference schedule. If they win the games that they should win, they can have a good season.

Omar Payne is having a dreadful season. 0 points today to go along with 3 fouls. He is averaging 2 pts and 2 rebounds a game. They are also only playing him about 8 minutes a game whereas we were playing him about 15 a game.

Feel kinda bad for him, I’m sure his decision was made when it looked like Cockburn was leaving and there was a much bigger role for the taking

I watched the Illinois/Purdue 2 OT game today. Very entertaining.

Illinois used Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk (20 minutes) instead of Omar Payne (7 minutes) as the back-up and replacement for Cockburn in the game after Omar Payne committed a totally useless Flagrant 1 and an additional T starting a 17-0 Purdue run. Omar looked lost most of the time, but Zach Edey and Travion Williams for Purdue are really good post players.

Payne is just not very good, no matter the coach. Most players that left did not hurt us.
Glover plays well, AN is doing well. Would take Reeves over anyone that left and he is much better than first of year, same for Kennedy.
JJ looks like a player now will be good next year.
Biggest problem with White is not coaching but till this year has been recruiting. We Ave 7th in SEC recruiting yet 5th in standings. Get up to top 3 in SEC we will be a good team.
