I remember seeing Lon shopping at Albertson's on 13th St when he was the coach. Never saw BD shopping for groceries. LOL.

I do have to say I was shocked that we got such a great hire after the Sloan/DeVoe cluster-f. He almost beat Danny Manning and the Miracles in the Regional Finals coaching K State. But he did have Mitch Richmond and Steve Henson on his roster so he had some great players.

His coaching of the 1994 Final Four team was stellar.

I was so glad that he went to Illinois. So glad. I was at UF during this time and was so damn glad that Billy D decided to come here. Please ask lame Lon how he felt coaching UF, only to leave us for Illinois who never did well in the NCAA's despite having 3 straight Mr Basketball Illinois' for the 3 years he was there. He is not a good coach and I was glad to see him leave.

Ask him how he feels that Billy Donovan replaced him and won back-to-back NCAA Championships.
Eff Lon. I don't care what he has to say.

Gator Bait. 'Nuff said. I hope we pound him and his stupid sooners into oblivion on December 1st.

    Go Gators forever!

Yes, please ask coach Lon when he met with the band in 1990 and showed off his sweet stroke at the ft line, did he ever give a thought to having a ft shooting contest with the first trumpet player? 'Cause I woulda whipped his ass.

Lon Kruger has led FIVE teams to the NCAA tournament and two teams to the Final Four. Only Calipari and Rick Pitino have taken three different teams to the Final Four.

And I would have Lon for dinner at my house, but not those other two slimeballs.

    @GratefulGator will disagree.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I had a number of interactions with him in various settings, he is a genuinely good man. It wasn’t fake or staged. I wouldn’t mess with his wife though, she was a tough cookie.
As far as UF, it didn’t end well, but he took us to our first final four, that counts for a whole lot.

it’s ok not to like him, but I think it’s pretty silly to say he isn’t a good coach.

    Fair enough, Lurker.

But Lyin' Lon only led two teams to the FF: UF and OK in 2016.
Trust me, losing Lon was addition by subtraction.
Dude is/was NOT a good coach.

How many other coaches could have taken our 1994 roster to the Final Four?

Call me silly, because Lon Kruger is NOT a good coach. What has he won?
He led two teams to the NCAA FF: UF in 1994 and OK in 2016.
So, you are saying he's a good coach because he went to to FFs 22 years apart?
    Surely, sir, you jest?

Two more Final Fours than John Chaney.

I think that John Chaney is a GREAT coach, but you have just dissed Kruger for ONLY getting two Final Fours.

Are you off your meds or do you have some other issues with the guy?

Gatorhoops, I’d like to know the story behind his recruitment of Vince Carter the season after our final four appearance. Remember how disappointing it was when we lost out to North Carolina.

Lon was one of the best program builders ever. He wasn’t great once it was rebuilt, and he knew that, which was why he moved on a lot. But if you had a program that needed a fresh start there was no one better.

Ok, my friend. I'm gonna call ya silly here. Lon Kruger can flat out coach. As Lurker noted, he pulled a miracle out of the '94 team, which was charismatic, but not exactly a star-studded lineup that one would expect to make the Final Four. That was long ago, though. He's been a good coach since. Oh, and btw he made every ft during his meeting with the band in '90. Swish :D
