Most coaches won’t call the timeout with the game tied and only a small amount of time on the clock because you will likely get a better look because the defense won’t have time to get set. White made the right choice to not call the timeout.
You know Aka, I can even take losing a few games when a team plays with this much intensity and is so entertaining to watch. Love the way these guys are playing so far, can’t say enough about how pleased I am to be seeing this style of basketball.
Thats fair and I could see that strategy. I still think many coaches draw up a play there... tied or not. Im stoked on this team, no doubt, but still unsure on Mike White. Who knows, maybe this is THE Mike White teams true identity and it just took 6 years to find it. We havent seen this type play since he has been there IMO.
OMG, didn’t think I’d ever hear that from you!!! I know CMW was wearing us down last year and we’ll never know if he held us back last year or if his coaching was actually hiding last years warts. At any rate, his group this year has “it” so far this year.
I’m not asking for credit. I have been wanting White to let the horses run since he got here and was more than frustrated by the slow style of play that he has shown in past seasons. If I had seen more of the same this season, I was done with Gator basketball until White was gone. But, so far he is playing a style of basketball that is more entertaining and I will support him as long as that continues. I think most fans prefer to watch a faster paced game. Heck, even when we won in White’s previous seasons it was a game that you could watch and cure insomnia. Much more exciting to watch so far. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn’t regress into season’s past.
I would rather enjoy a supportive post than a negative one. And yeah. Not everyone has the maturity to change their minds. Why not support it? I enjoy your posts too.
Depends on how much time left. If only a second or two you take a time out and you set up a heave down court toward the basket. Not enough time to advance the ball with the clock running. I think you have seen countless replays of the Duke/UK Regional Final with the Laettner turn-around. I get sick of seeing that play every March Madness game. But your point is well taken. There was just enough time left where letting them play was the correct call. Of course with much more time left in a tie game you call the TO to set up a play to score and not leave the other team time to score if unsuccessful. Clearly you do that with 15 or more seconds left. I will have to think long and hard about what time it goes from "let them play" to "call a TO". Probably depends a lot on the match-ups and the position of players on the floor at that time and that is hard to get optimized in real time. Still, I think it might be in the range of 8 to 10 seconds left normally. I am guessing that there is statistics out there on this much like sabremetrics in baseball, but I doubt that there is consensus. There isn't even consensus on whether or not to foul up three.
