Personnel. I have said it on other threads, but this is a fully Mile White team. That has been evasive to this point, as I think White had to adjust to recruiting his type player with the challenges of competing for elite recruits. White cut his teeth at la-tech recruiting kids passed over and who had a chip on their shoulders. That is a bit harder to find among the sought after. I’ll withhold names, but we have had some huge mismatches from a character/culture standpoint. Anyway- great to see you posting and optimistic. I know you are a good fan.
Another very impressive performance from the team. Looks like as long as we can keep the defensive intensity over the course of the season that we will be a team no one will want to play. I still think we are a little too hot and cold offensively, and our bigs need to be more careful trying to dribble through traffic. However, I expect the way we are currently defending and pushing tempo will make us contenders in the SEC this season.
I agree with what you’re saying but why did it take 7 seasons for him to build a team with the type of players that he wants? I’m just hoping that he continues with letting them play and doesn’t slow things down. I’ll blow a gasket if he changes the way they are playing now. Lol
I think it’s been a combination: a new coach taking over for a legend and needing to establish himself on the trail; an adjustment to the type of players targeted; an incredible early rash of injuries; and some flat-out misses. And let’s be honest- this is White’s first big time job. He has been and remains on a learning curve. But thru all of this - we have hardly foundered. White has made the tourney every year since his first; is one of 4 teams in the country to win at least a tourney game each of the last 5 years and has an elite 8 run. Yes- we have seen a frustrating plateau - but the above accomplishments is a pretty high floor at Florida. And I’ve always been convinced that is what it’s been... a floor, with a much higher ceiling.
Question for those that attended: How many tOSU fans there? Will it be a Gator friendly crowd, evenly split, more tOSU fans tomorrow night?
I grew up in Ft Myers. Hated it, nothing but retirees and rednecks. If course I lived on the wrong side of the tracks. Best friend recently moved back and now loves it. Go figure.
Worked construction during one college summer putting in seawalls in Cape Coral in mid 70s. Cape Coral at one point was the epicenter of land fraud. There are a ton of of Ohio retirees in SW Fla so would not be surprised if buckeyes turn out in mass. It's a late game tho so many might need to get home after the early bird special.
Yep. I grew up in Southwest Florida. Retirees from the Midwest all end up there. They look and act like angry bulldogs. And you should see the men...
I never had any interaction with the people buying the houses. I do recall them bringing potential buyers down by the busload to show the homes. My job was working the construction end with GAC.
The retirees from the Midwest come down 75 to the west coast, and those from the east come down 95 to the east coast
