...cold blooded killers. CC will cut your heart out and let you bleed out at mid court. Those kinda guys play hard up 20 or down 20. Mike's problems haven't been talent...or really scheme. He had no killers. Guys laid back when up big or bowed out when down big. This team plays the same way either way. My hope is that Mike learns from that and always gets some guys that will cut out your heart. No Locke's or Hudson's that vanish for extended periods it seems. I absolutely love watching these guys. Kudos MDub.
Defend Mike White all you want pretend he’s Mullen but times 1,000,000 you won’t be getting any pushback from me on this one anymore! That was straight up criminal what we did to those poor Cali boys!
Having a ton of experienced guys pays off, even if you get there in a roundabout way. I’m still not getting ahead of myself. But I said after the FSU win, the eyeball test seemed like this was a more blue collar team, or “scrappier” or however you want to call it.
White has changed his philosophy a lot in the off-season, and part of that was bringing in transfers that play great defense and are aggressive on offense. These are the type of kids that used to bully our softer more highly rated players. I am cautiously optimistic that this is a reflection of a turning point for Mike White. Still early though, and we absolutely need CC to stay healthy for it all to work.
Yeah. Up huge late in the game and these dues were still playing smothering defense like they wanted to steal the souls of those boys from Berkley. It was glorious
The problem is we are probably losing 5,6,7 players again next year. So whatever this year ends up as, it’s basically a senior loaded team. It’s not something that carries into next year. Hopefully his new freshmen are the type that bring this type of effort, and if we go the grad transfer route again there happens to be the right fit.
It looked to me that Felder wanted in last night. He might not shoot a high percentage of threes, but last night he showed he’s got some killer in him. It’s probably rubbing off on him, being around so many mercenary killers.
It seems that many of the main rotation are quite muscular and play that way. Now let’s go bully some bucnuts
And Phlan is just plain mean. He's an instigator. He's gonna make a lot of games chippy and I'm ok with that.
CMW has made all the transfers to listen to Tom’s Petty’s song with the phrase “we won’t back Down”. Phlan and Bmac have played with attitude every night. Seems they got a little of the Detroit Pistons in them, LOL!
Same thing Donovan did after years of getting burnt by the highly rated McDonald’s All Americans and constantly getting dominated and ousted early on in the tournament. That, and hiring Larry Shyatt made such a difference. People forget that outside of his appearance in the title game early on, Billy languished for years before changing his approach.
Not just that, but we have a very deep team of aggressive defenders, meaning we can defend at a high level for the entire game, not just the first 15 to 20 minutes. Eventually the other team will wear down and we can build the kind of leads we have been seeing in all these games. We are 10 deep with guys who really defend. Let's hope they can keep it up throughout the entire season. They could start to wear themselves down eventually.
The team needed some grit and he brought in a sand pile. That's the type of player he needs or any that are committed to get there. Heart first, burger ranking second - or not at all.
Ironically - he was the one who needed to be a cold blooded killer. Someone who would cut your heart out and let you bleed out at mid field. That was what was missing, IMHO.
