I agree. Few people realize... we were incredibly close to canceling the season. I remember typing a post that basically announced our season over,,,,but opted not to publish.
Yea I remember that and I wanted it to end honestly just because of the traumatic event. I mean I literally shed a tear in the moment as I was listening on the radio and heard Mick Hubert literally breaking down on the air. It felt like time had frozen. Now that we are past that moment in time, you have to tip your hat to what this team is looking like so far without Key. I mean my goodness, could you imagine if we had Key?? Wow
I admit to being a vocal, dissatisfied fan with White. I’m giving him props for what has been accomplished so far with this edition. But as said in another thread, CONSISTENCY for the program has been the biggest issue. While they have imported a bunch of upperclassmen that have brought maturity and stability for THIS year, it is imperative that while buying wins for this year, we build maturity in the younger players in order that NEXT YEAR and years beyond that consistency can remain steady. A one year run only to regress to what has been for the previous years of his tenure would not be very satisfying. So while I’m glad to see consistency and wins for now, I’m hoping to see a foundation for ‘tomorrow’ being laid well in the games. Go CMW. Go Gators.
Hey, AKA is the "original" Mike White guy! Didn't AKA wind up making the final call on the hire?? ............. LOL Hey Brent, you have had a few darts thrown your way so you deserve to bask in the glory when glory is available!! CMW punches so many of the right buttons, just needed a little success on the court. How about that win last night! 3 - 0 BABY!!!!! (To quote Vitale) Congrats to everyone on a fast start. I have been critical of CMW somewhat myself but was hopeful he could put something a bit more exciting on the floor than the last few years. It looks like this crew has answered the bell!
Jeff - YOU ALREADY told us you liked the cut of this teams jib! That experience you were talking about, the mental toughness, has certainly manifested itself so far! Well done on your earlier call!
What? You might want to look at Coach White’s record on consistency, because if you do you’d see that he is on par with only a handful of elite programs for tournament success during his tenure.
How about CC?? Dang man, he's ALREADY making the case for SEC POTY!!! I LOVE watching this kid!! Look at his stats - A DOUBLE DOUBLE machine!! Is this kid "blooming" before our eyes or what? Throw in the "balanced" scoring, the defensive intensity and the results on the scoreboard and ............well..............AKA / JEFF what IS the ceiling of this club?? I don't think we have seen it yet! Yo - Did you see Mike White during the halftime interview? They had to "cut him off" - he was in coaching mode BIG TIME!
Good analysis! It seemed the recruiting for the most part was signing twigs, which got taken out of games. I think part of CMW’s improvement has come from NBN experts (LOL) that see the problems and we are constantly bringing up problems he needed to correct. We are thin up front and we are one injury away from having a hard time competing with top teams. The two new coaches seemed to have helped in recruiting and bringing new ideas for the offense. Yea! Now when we play Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Auburn and the Mississippi teams it will be war on another scale. Think the FSU game, we will have to endure the high and lows of competing in I think, the toughest conference in the Nation. Officiating will be questionable at times, this is an area that CMW needs to improve with working the officials. All said, we as a program are heading in a better direction now as a program, thanks to CMW listening to flaws in the program and help guiding the program on an upward path. The keyontae going down horror, nobody could of seen this coming and it slowed the program down. I gave CMW the benefit of doubt when this happened, but things like this and injuries, when you are thin in the front court, makes it tough to win games. Duruji wasn’t ready for the starting role and he had a lot of nights where he didn’t get into the games to help the team. He has worked hard and I think he has worked himself into getting paid in the game when he leaves. A lot of tough games loom on the horizon, but with the tough transfers, we have a chance to cause a lot of teams nightmares. As for AKA, he deserves kudos for all the shots fired in his direction and sticking with his beliefs. This season so far has been great for Gator Nation when it was sorely needed!
The more time people spend online the more miserable they become. The more miserable they become the more time they spend online. Take it from me, online since the eighties Usenet. Because of Facebook it is now almost everyone.
I think it has been a vocal minority that have wanted Mike Whites head every time the Gators fall behind in a game. While the team has had some struggles I have never thought it was to the point of even talking about firing Coach White. There were some on the game threads that just wait for things to go bad in a game and then they come out of hiding and start screaming for his head and they will show up this year again. I am sure a few of them are disappointed in the season so far. A couple could have shown up that I didn't know about because I finally blocked them last year so I could enjoy the game threads.
Yeah...Pretty sure there are several of us pro-coach White types here. My quote has consistently been, "We can wait on Mike develop into a star here, or watch him be one somewhere else." I still believe that.
Hey… you have to add in the “Coach” to “Pro-White”! I’m not trying to be labeled as a Black, White Supremacist.
That's true of every team, isn't it? The act of shooting a basketball from distance is a streaky pursuit. What I find encouraging is that we have four largely interchangeable guards who defend and play their asses off. Maybe we don't have one elite shooter, but they're all good. I think the likelihood of all four shooting blanks in any given night is unlikely.
So now three games into a season all is awesome again? This place cracks me up. One loss and the world is ending and MW should be fired, 3 wins in a 35 game season and people feel vindicated. we have 6 seniors this year. Even if they are still figuring each other out a bit, other teams not only have a much higher ceiling than us, our style of play is completely different than previous MW teams (for the better), so we haven’t even been properly scouted yet, let alone all the new faces that aren’t known to our league that will be deciphered a bit over time. I am cautiously optimistic on this season with the toughness they have shown, and the unselfishness as well. For the first time in years they are fun to watch. But even if this is a great season, we are currently looking at a pretty barren roster next year (depending on how the super senior thing works out for us). We sold a lot of future IOUs by taking on all the senior transfers. Maybe he had go to win now, but it’s a very interesting dynamic.
Murph, I’ll try to qualify my consistency comment. I’m talking about the team having a consistent Offensive identity and being consistent in getting up for the ‘down’ games as well as the big games. We’ve lost more than a share of home games to teams that we had no business losing to over the years. Now, statistically speaking , the number may say that White has done ok. But I feel like that there are more than a few fans that feel similar to how I do about the consistency issue. But ultimately, we want to see the gators succeed. So here’s hoping that CMW can build not only a good, consistent , team this year but for future years. Peace out .
Yea so you didn't read the thread title I see. It's OK it happens. Lol..I'm not jumping down your throat just pointing out what I said in a post on the first page about the title. I purposely put this disclaimer in the title: "If we keep wining..." prior to saying "you have to give aka props." In other words, things can still fall off the track, but so far you have to give props. Sorry you missed that or misunderstood what I was saying but to me my title doesn't imply that "All is awesome" by any means. It should signal to the reader that it's OK to "live in the moment" (Like Billy D famously stated) while tipping the cap to aka along with other unwavering White supports while understanding that this may or may not be the norm moving forward. There is literally nothing more to say besides that honestly.
Oh and to the poster (whoever that may be) that is going to bump this thread just to say "I told you so" after we lose our first game...lol.....yes I'm aware that you are going to do this prior to it happening. Hey, don't look at me like that...YES IM TALKING TO YOU! lol..don't even bother saying "I told you so" because that means you didn't read the disclaimer in the title of the thread and you look foolish right now trying to say "I told you so" on here.
