My daughter plays in the NC State pep band. We're going to the Sunday game. Probably won't be pretty, but at least we get to see our daughter!
Reynolds Coliseum has a very rich history. For many years it was as good as any on-campus facility. They held the ACC tournament there for many years. Up until they refurbished it a few years ago, it was pretty much a dump compared to modern arenas. it's still fairly cozy, but it was beautifully redone. Great venue for women's basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, etc.
Down 14-3 in just 2.5 minutes. Second game in a row we came out very sloppy. That's a troublesome sign if it keeps happening. Kelly needs to get a little more fire and get after them IMO.
That was maybe the worst 2 and a half minutes of basketball I've seen ever from this program (and that's saying something). Barely can get past half court without an unforced turnover, and giving up wide open 3s and layups on the other end. Yikes.
For all this talk of how we focused on being a great defensive team we have given up 34 in the 1st Qtr. Yikes
Towson 7-8 from 3. Pretty unreal. All uncontested of course, but still they've blown way more uncontested layups. Seems we have righted the ship on offense a bit but the defense is just...wow.
38-55 at the half. This effort is just bad. Kelly won't keep the job losing to teams like Towson with the talent she has. This is 100% being lost by lack of energy and hustle.
No energy. Flat footed to start and got punched in the mouth by a motivated Towson team from the 1st whistle. Improved in the 2Q but this game was already lossed in the first several minutes of the game. Inexplicable passes leading to turnovers and run out points. Mind numbing fouls and defensive breakdowns. I know this was just the first half of game two but man this is not encouraging. Towson may turn out to be top tier team - doubt it - and every team has an off night but this effort so far is very discouraging.
Towson scored somewhere in the 116 range in their first game. They are not a bad team, but we are far more talented. They just hustle and we don't right now.
105 to be exact and that was Frostburg freaking State. A teacher's college tucked away in the western Maryland mountains. We are playing much more poised now and should be beating them in and around the basket with our superior size. But as you stated they continue to outhustle us. If I see KiKi Smith jog back on defense trailing the guard who just beat her off the bounce one more time I am going to throw up. And we likely lead the nation in fouling after missing a layup assuming that stat even exists
