Bobby is just giving in to lowering expectations like so many of us have already settled with. Seriously though, it is a cup 1/2 full or 1/2 empty situation. If you want somebody that is going to be ready to play when he gets on campus, you would have been seriously disappointed to get him. If you saw him as a project with potentially very high upside that would pan out after 3 years in our weight program, then you would be very disappointed that MD got him.
I dont follow recruiting very closely for this reason. We don't hear rumors about most high profile guys which is disheartening. But even worse when we hear rumors about projects and we don't close them.
Former 5* and Oregon U OT Kingsley Suamataia is the highest rated in the transfer portal by 247 Sports. The second highest ranked player its also a OL from Wisconsin Kayden Lyles from Wisconsin U. The main difference being that Suamataia its a FR and Lyle a SR. One more highly ranked OL in the transfer portal its former Uthat U Simi Moala.
Good read. When five-star OL Kiyaunta Goodwin finally embraced his size, the rest is as they say history
My first 2 thoughts....Brad Davis was very well liked in his year at UF and will be available when LSU season ends. Young guy but already has a lot of SEC experience, should recruit well once settled in. Steve Addazzio may get fired at Colorado St, hate him as a head coach and OC but great recruiter and motivator as an OL coach.
If we bring Davis back, I hope we rein in his speaking engagements this time and remind him his future isn't in standup comedy. I was at the Gator Club banquet where he got himself caught up in national headlines over calling Saban "the devil himself". For those who may have forgotten: Nick Saban seems genuinely hurt by Tim Davis’ ‘devil’ remark Why do coaches call Nick Saban the devil?
Was thinking the same thing about Addazzio, having a connection to Mullen I could see him being the choice if they can him
you know what? I just told myself that we gotta start treating UF like the top flight program it can be and go get the best coordinators and position coaches available. Ruffle feathers of other schools by offering their best position coaches. Offer Derek Mason $2 mill, offer that to Dan Lanning and while he wouldn’t leave UGA for UF, make UGA outbid us for him. Go find the best ST coach and TAKE HIM. Ed O eating good off his buyout but shoot call em and see if there’s a way we can get him on the staff. Make it hard for these coaches to tell us NO Listen, I want Dan gone but until that happen, ima still approach things talking about what he can do better to improve the team. Pull a Brian Kelly and give up play calling duties and become a better CEO now that the show cause will be up. You got unlimited access to two of the greatest college coaches of all time in Meyer and Spurrier, pick their brains. Do i Have faith in him? No, but ima hold out hope until he proves me right. Ill tell you what, and yes Samford not going to be an indicator of anything, but if we see a diff type of rotation of players getting snaps, ill hold out hope. If the same folks get the bulk of the snaps then i have no hope
Why scoff at the idea if you don't know about him? I'd say just look at how he keeps getting good jobs...he's got a personality. They don't call him vitamin A for nothing.
Not to offend anyone, but old coaches, especially former head coaches, are pretty financially set. Are they on fire to hit the road and meet 18 yr olds and sweet talk them? Are they liable to connect and communicate with young blood? They may be true technicians but again, Gators gotta go get players, and have coaches that make that a top priority.
good point unless you’re Bama or UGA, that’s playing with fire especially if that said former HC wasn’t a great recruiter at his last stop. Hell look at this hot seat list, say any of them get canned, none of them REALLLLY jumps off the page: Coaches Hot Seat Ranking
