My guess is she wasn't a top choice, but we needed depth at F badly. I don't know that to be case, but I would assume.
Julie Plank - Women's Basketball Coach - Florida Gators This was a great recent coaching hire. We have an acting head coach and we’re fortunate that we were able to hire such an experienced and well respected assistant coach for the staff. Great experience, background and basketball knowledge. Had been out of coaching for a few years taking care of a family situation, which is why she was available to us.
The team leaders are saying all the right things and there is good talent on this team. Now it is time to rally together and deliver on that promise. Turning the Page: Gators Looking Forward, Not Back - Florida Gators
I'm sure that's what Stricklin is hoping for, but it's not that simple. I've knew Chris Harry 30 years ago. I know he's a flack now, but that was a pretty weak effort. He ought to do better.
OK. I am not sure why my posting of a team availability interview has set you off on a Chris Harry and Scott Stricklin barrage as my intent was elsewhere. I am not going to pretend to know the inner machinations of this program other than the obvious. Something bad enough occurred that warranted Newbauer to be gone, a former player felt compelled to go to social media and several press outlets to make pretty serious allegations about the coaching staff, and despite this upheaval the vast majority of the team decided to stay and fight for each other and their assistant cum interim head coach. My reason for posting this article was strictly to show support for the 14 women on the roster who apparently have decided to ban together to succeed despite finding themselves in an untenable situation that was not of their making. I am not defending Stricklin and his complete mishandling of this affair and if real evidence implicates Finley she should be gone in short order. My rooting interest is strictly for these women to achieve success on the court, in the class room and in life because up to now they certainly have experienced more than their share of hardship.
Promising read. Love the mention of Alberte. Really love what I have seen of her highlight videos, and she had some rave reviews from people who follow European ball. We know what we have with Lavender and Kiki. If Alberte and Zippy are as good as I think they can be our guards will be really, REALLY, good.
Prudence is still advised in this time of Covid. But I think we're getting there. We'll see what happens this winter with the spread of the illness. Once we're confident we've got it beaten back, then it behooves the UAA to allow, even encourage, outside observers to come to the womens' team practices. Transparency must happen.
Chris Harry is doing his job.... as a UF writer his role isn't to dig up dirt. Surely you understand that. And quite frankly I'm not sure what else can be taken from this particular moment/interview session, unless you want a hack to try and spin it into something
I didn't trash you or dislike you or anything of the sort. I appreciate the link. I don't even care of Finley stays -- I'm not assigning her guilt by association. But the idea that we can just say "let's move on" without addressing what happened is ludicrous. That Chris (who was the hardest on anyone who even displayed a hint of homerism) wrote an article -- even a PR flack one -- without even mentioning the circumstances of Newbauer's departure or the conversation around it -- is disappointing. But let's be clear about this. As much as everyone might want to move on, Finely is a public employee. She works in a public space. She represents a public institution. She does not have the luxury of refusing to answer questions about damning allegations, especially when she is implicated in some of them. It is not in ANYONE'S interest to just move on.
Let's be clear about something else. Kinslow seems to be the only voice implicating Kelly. Her own actions make her, at best, a very questionable source. It seems the team disagrees with her take. I don't know if Kelly stays or goes, and I'd probably prefer a bigger hire if I were being honest... but focusing on her team and the future is the most logical and best thing she could have done. Zero problem with how she handled the media here.
What? I never wrote anything about being trashed or disliked by you. Ah, never mind...moving on to next topic.
https://www.gainesville.com/story/s...ck-finley-clean-up-newbauers-mess/8580342002/ Did you see this already? I know the girls like Kelly.. I hope she does well and the girls have fun getting after it this year.....
put in another request to be allowed to watch practice a day or 2 ago, we'll see Kelly Rae seemed open to at least some avails a week
How come when the men have a “secret” scrimmage against UNC, UNC put up a four minute highlites video of all their scoring plays and when we have a “secret” scrimmage against Miamuh they’d tweet pictures of it but we are unable to put up anything? must be because we are a football school………
